I have to agree with B, it deserves the best treatment.

But ultimately it come down to what you can live with and afford, in both time and money terms.

I vote B. ie resto back to original as possible.

Why?? Because the rest of us are going through all the pain and suffering of our detailed restos. Why should Bernie escape the pain?

I saw an untouched, original 289 Shelby Cobra once that was ridiculously cool because it looked like the survivor it was rather than yet another in a long line of pampered trailer queens.  Lots of full-on restos out there (comparatively speaking), so you could be a little different and keep it really original (meaning option A or C).

I agree here. My 1970 MK1 escort had the paint redone about 25 years ago and is not the original colour, but it's still got all original chrome trim, side strips, steel wheels, vinyl roof etc and because of this it gets a lot of attention.  The most important thing to me is being able to drive it

I like option A, don't mind the 'patina' look myself..
In saying that if the time and motivation is there it'd be nice to see the rust taken out to save it for the future...
It's your car at the end of the day so go with what will make you enjoy it the most....
Cheers Drew......

repaint it - paint is not original so adds nothing to value keeping it as is

Or repaint it in the original colour, including a hint of orange peel so it looks original.  Should be cheaper that way too!

Thanks everyone: can't tell you how much I appreciate all your comments very much !

I should have emphasised that the Paint and its WILD PLUM Colour is 90% ORIGINAL, with 10% added where minor accidents/wear/tear .....have occurred over 40 years

If this makes any difference to your vote, feel free to review you vote

old acrylic with chips, touch ups, and crazing will have rust under it in places, and if there's any bog in it, chances are it was applied to bare metal and is also slowly rusting underneath.
