Hi, My son obtained some Capri struts for my Esky van project. They were sold as 1 pair V6, 1 pair GT 1600 and 2 pair non GT 4 cyl. What are the differences so I can id them?   Thanks Peter.

I think they're all the same. The 1.6 ones are anyway but I have heard people say they're all the same. Armstrong. Are the tubes all straight down by the stub axles? I'll buy a pair if you have surplus :D

According to the Capri parts manual, the part numbers are as follows:
3K033/4  UNIT & SPINDLE ASSEMBLY - FRONT SUSPENSION
69 RH-1600cc Remanufactured, CP-3K033-BRB-RH
70 RH-3000cc Remanufactured, CP-3K033-CRB-RH
69 RH-1600cc Remanufactured, CP-3K034-BRB-LH
70 RH-1600cc Remanufactured, CP-3K034-CRB-LH
The same manual drawing suggests that they are identical, at least externally!

Those part numbers are for the whole assembly so my guess would be that the V6 had different damper rates and that would be the only difference and the reason for different part numbers.  As a check I would measure and check for any differences in the stub axle diameters.

Hi, I had a look over the struts and measured them and they are all the same apart from one set having heavier coils. We are not sure what we are doing with any extras yet as I have 2 vans and my son was thinking of getting a 2 door sedan. I will keep the numbers of the members who have enquired for when we decide. They are hard to find so we will think carefully before letting any go. 

There are two methods available to identify the struts.  Both have identical stub axles, different spring mount locations and different length tubes.
 
Method 1:  Measure the length from the bottom of the tube to the welded join of the spring mount.
V6 is approx 270mm
4 cyl is approx 277mm
The V6 insert is approx 8mm shorter than the 4 cyl.
 
Method 2:  By the part numbers stamped on the tube above the brake line mounting.
V6    70EB 3K033 AID  is for the RHS
        70EB 3K034 AID  is for the LHS
4 cyl  69EB 3K033 BIA  is for the RHS
         69EB 3K034 BIA  is for the LHS
I have highlighted the A and B as there are various part numbers but all have the A for V6 and B for 4 cyl.
 
Would be interested to note any variations.

Hi, Thanks for all the info. There is 1 pair with the tube measurement different to the others and checking the part numbers they are V6 struts and the others are 4cyl. With the V6 being shorter to the saddle does that mean they sat a little lower? Also are the 1600 and 1600GT struts the same?
