As the topic says.. what starter am I mean to use with a Retro Ford sump / zetec?

The spaced pinto one i use hits the sump; looks like by 5mm (so more than can be ground off the starter).

The escort starter cleared the modified CVH sump I had previously, buy I wanted some extra capacity so bought the Retro Ford one.. Should have just modified mine, but stupidly I thought this would be easier..

Cheers,
Andrew

I have 2 zetec escorts, both with Retro sumps, 1 with flywheel mod (ring gear stop machined 13mm further forward to take std escort starter and 1 with std focus flywheel, which runs a Bosch starter from (I believe) a transit. I will get the bosch part number and post it tomorrow. someone else on here was having an issue with starters late last year, just cant remember who it was.

The number on the "transit" starter is hard to see but I think it is
1005 821 241 although the 1 might be a 7 or 9.
should realy go to spec-savers.

I got a blacktop kit from retro ford and the starter in that is a: Uni Point brand, model no:STR2009 dont know what its off but thats whats comes in the retro frod kit so i would guess it fits with the retro sump. (i havnt fitted the kit up yet). Hope that helps. Mick

The starter that went with Hendo's blacktop was from the UK. Sierra 'DOHC' auto (puts the solenoid in a good position) and bolts straight up. Go eBay uk they're cheaper than anything local even with postage.
