I seem to remember some photos of a poor soul's Escort that burned to the ground on the street, complete with during and after shots. Searching the forum hasn't turned them up, so if anyone knows where they are posted, I'd love to show them to my son, who questions whether a fire suppression system is worth it on a street car.

Yeah it's some pretty graphic content. I went out and checked my fuel lines and extinguisher this morning.
 

Just bare in mind that fire extinguishers of about 1kg will struggle to put out a fuel fire if under the bonnet, if you can get it open without burning yourself. I know this first hand, not a pretty outcome for the car (burnt to the ground 😩😩😩 ). The whole idea of a fire bomb in a car is to suppress the fire long enough for you and anyone else to be able to exit before being seriously injured or worse. There are sadly many examples of people's pride and joys burning to the ground even with a fire bomb. Yes they certainly help, but there design is to suppress not extinguish. Look at YouTube at rally crashes and the resulting fire. Not many cars live to compete again. The best way to avoid these situations is to use the best quality components you can afford and to ensure you inspect them regularly. I personally inspected my fuel system on my rally car before and after every event. You never know what you might find.
