Hey Guys,

When I started my restoration I had every intention of doing a build thread as I went along. This didnt happen so instead thought i would do a reverse build thread. Firstly to everyone on this site who i have hassled for information etc, thank you. Its amazing how sometimes the smallest tip/trick shortcut can make the difference. Lot of people here have helped and it is very much appreciated.

So, build summary. 3 years from start to finish. Bare metal resto mod of a 1980 MK2 RS2000 coupe. Original colour was red but was ditched for a custom blend of Ford Olympic Blue. The goal was to create a back road blaster. Not fully stripped but light on details and keep it as simple and as raw as I could. The other influence is that this is my daily driver. That may change down the track but for now I want to be able to get in and drive all day everyday. Going to be a long hot summer :)

Build summary:

Purchased off ebay sight unseen, fully stripped and on a rotisserie. Most parts included except for engine/wheels.
Body/PaintDone by Carl at Aces Garage in Caloundra. Man knows his business. Made it way to pretty for what i plan to do to it.
Shell is almost unmodified except for GRP4 gearbox tunnel, aerial delete and mods to suit standard door cards.
Engine: Stock Blacktop Zetec with Stage 2 retro ford conversion kit. OMEX ITB's with OMEX 600 ECU. Ralloy radiator.
Drive line: Rebuilt Type 9 5 speed with Quaife short shift. Quaife LSD Diff. 4.11 gearing i think.
Brakes: Custom 'P.Dunstan' pedal box assembly with remote reservoirs. Alcon 4 piston front calipers, Nissan R31 disc conversion.
Suspension: Coilover front struts, single leaf rear end. Gaz rear shocks.
Wheels/Tyres: 13x7 JBW 4 spokes. Tyres are 185/60s R888. Have a set of 205/60s but had some space issues. Hope to make these work down the track.
Electrical: All new loom from UK supplier.
Exhaust: 2 1/2 Stainless custom system with cat converter.
Interior: Aldridge standard door cards, hood lining and rear seat cover. One of my favorite mods was the standard door cards. Love the exposed paint at the top. Group 4 spec gearbox tunnel (done by previous owner). Velo fixed back seats. No carpet, insulation etc just some mats.

Engineering/tuning done by Stewart Reid in Redcliffe. Dyno'd @ 146hp at the wheels. Mod plated to suit engine, brakes etc and registration as a 2 seater.

Been on the road for about 3 weeks and have logged close to 1200km. Lots of little gremlins that are being sorted but no major issues to date. No break downs either which is a surprise...

Will add more details as i remember. Will also add some more photos of the build...

Cheers Ron. I live on the Sunshine Coast so daily driving is not stuck in bumper-bumper traffic or the like. Will see how it goes. As for 'professional' build, far from it. No mechanical experience before this build. Biggest thing I have probably done myself before this was install coil overs in a WRX. Lots of learning. Lots of doing things 2-3-4 times but that is how you learn.

Mate this is awesome and how i would love to have mine turn out one day. The colour is damn nice and suits the car perfectly. Really digging the minimal carpet also, because everything is very neatly presented it holds it all together pretty well.

What alcon kit did you use for your front set up? im a huge fan of brake porn so post up some photos.

The Alcons front calipers are the clh304 model. Bought off a member here who planned to put on his escort race car. In the end he kept 15" rims so could go bigger brakes. I wanted to run 13s and these were the biggest I could fit. Also came with 2 piece rotors and alloy hubs. Expensive package but as always, you get what you pay for. Different to drive without a booster but stopping power is there. Especially in a car that weighed in @ 900kg full road spec....

The shell looked pretty good to start with, bonus.
Any hidden nasties when you stripped it?
