The same thing happened to my shifter a few years back. I just used the vacuum cleaner with a small nozzle to suck all the loose bits out of the housing. Some of the bits will need a bit of coaxing as they can be embedded in grease.

ok after taking the shifter to a gearbox place they said they could rebuild it on the spot, installed a brand new thread thing with the tabs, (personally i think it's to much $75 just on this part alone) and they had a good second hand ball, $100 later it does not fit at all, the thread is to small for the hole now ( it just slides right into the gearbox hole without screwing,

would anyone have a good standard second hand shifter (going off this info here there's two different sizes)

going of this info im suspecting i need a 43mm thread) that they can sell cheap for me to get home (3 hours away)?, had the wife post my other shifter to me but its a RS 2000 shifter which i would need the extension for the housing

when i rebuild the weber it was dated '73 when i gave the part number for it to the store for a kit, the 2 ltr i think it was originally from a cortina as on the sump it had cortina in white writing like its from a wrecker, it was in the van when i bought it and I was given no info, so just going of what I know, it may be a '73 driveline from a cortina

but the strange thing is the rs2000 shifter screws in but i think its hitting the bottom as i can not select 3rd or fourth with it

here's a pic of the original one rebuild

I REALLY don't want to but sadly, i think it time to sell my girl,
due to after fixing the shifter i went out for a drive and got pulled over for a breath test (that was all good) but got pulled up driving a manual today,

just a recap on all the things done on her, i have done a lot of work to it over the past 9 years, its a pinto 2 ltr 4 speed, in the past few months i have install a recon starter, electric dizzy, new timing belt, new AccuSpark three point spark plugs and leads, has a see through dizzy cap, and ive just installed a RS 2000 quick shift today and a chrome rocker cover

over the years i bought brand new dragways which cost over $2500, fronts are off the car only been on the car for under a week, as the offset were made for flares down the track which never happened 13in fitted with new bf goodrich  tyres fitted on the front a few months ago,new aftermarket door trims, has front bumperettes, Has a genuine sundowner tacho dash, and sundowner spare wheel bracket, also can come with a RS 2000 dash and correct wiring to connect, last year i bought a mild worked stage one engine with twin side draft webers and gearbox, yet to be installed, i do have a full folder with most receipts, and has full regoed

receipts of engine work along is $3225

i do have a genuine sundowner full roof lining with one rip plus a brand new full roof lining still in the packaging bought around christmas time, also has a stainless steel exhaust with extractors , has a clock console which works, new battery about 4 months ago,

comes with a good driver side door, there is a few dents on the one on the car but no rust, have spare rust free rear doors and a spare passenger side mudguard

the bad, could do with a respray but body is very good for rust not much at all, gearbox crunches down gear only when hot, but as previously stated comes with another engine and box
