Great thread, enjoying the read. Bummer about photobucket its ruined many peoples threads and how to's.
Its come along way, theres something about the van movement that brings out the DIY in people, I've got alot respect for that being a self taught tinkerer myself.
The commodores not bad either
Keep on vanning Drew.

i would gladly trade my SL-X VH Wagon for a AUTO escort van, must be registered in NSW and have a good body, not to fuss on the engine size 1.1 1.3 1.6 or a 2ltr, would prefer a 2ltr but not to fussed, if anyone has one in NSW please let me know, must be a auto body

thanks for posting up Griezy.
Yep, photobucket killed lots and isn't winning many friends now.
Your Frankenstein LTD takes the cake for me.
I wish I could find the Cobra striped Escort van I saw 6 months ago, as until seeing that, I never looked twice on a van.
Now I think a 2 lt,mk 1 bubble arched van round headlight with ML would make a good weekend practical car, even moreso than my current 2l rally pack. Keep the photos coming along.

bought a worked engine for it but have to sort a few things like accelerator cable for the twin carbs and other few things before installing it

Great read greisy, thanks for the effort you put in to post it all for us. One thing I like about this forum is the option to download the photos to the site and not use the likes of photobucket. It has saved a lot of info on this forum from being destroyed.

I think every Escort fan has a soft spot for the van, me included.

been awhile since the last update, so i thought to do one now while the van off the road, yesterday i drove 3 hours from past lithgow to campbelltown, pulling up at the lights at katoomba going down gears to slow down, then it got stuck in 2nd gear, while trying to get it out of gear, the whole gear stick broke of at the base (plastic ball came out of the socket (look very chewed up, think it been on the way out for a long time by the looks of it), after about 30 mins I've finally got it to go in fourth gear, only had fourth gear to drive 2 hours to get to campbeltown, hard taking of at light in fourth gear

what would be the best way to get all the plastic shavings out of the housing?

on the plus side of things I've renewed the timing belt last week (which has not been done in 9 years that I've owned it) and who know when the previous owner did it, and i bought a chrome tappet cover for it, I reckon it looks good
