Hello all,
Fitting up a set of gaz gold struts to the car, I've gone to fit the hubs but the bearing size appears to be different, mine are too small and won't fit. Is there an alternative size bearing that can be used? different hubs? or is it a trip to the machine shop?
Any suggestions or solutions appreciated Drew.......

Not Capri 2.8i (mk3) size are they? Pretty sure thats it.

They're described as fitting mk2 RS and capri.... hmmm.... didn't see this one coming, feel like chucking them over the back fence, but need to adapt and overcome.... so it may be some capri hubs I need? next question will the escort discs fit these? or am I going for capri items aswell?

Yeh the mk2 RS is the UK type which had the bigger bearing, same as capri. As mk2 RS here in Aus didn't have this larger bearing.
 
Im pretty sure disc will still bolt on ok (not that I've tried that combo). But you will need a capri hub as it houses the larger bearing..
They do pop up every now and then used. But Alloy type being the ones you buy new but aren't really cheap. If buying alloy just make sure they are standard studs (not grp4 type - different studs etc) and have standard offset/track (not +10mm etc).

But they would look the part on those lovely new struts

Ok cheers, looks like I'll order a set of those, peer group pressure...... I like the idea of shiny, although I'd just had the old hubs blasted and zinc plated to match, bummer, they'll make nice paper weights or door stops now.....

Now that I think about it, what wheels will you be running?  Maybe those extra 10mm on the other hubs they sell (which are cheaper) would be useful to you, especially if you convert the rear to discs (assuming that widens your track also).

The wheels are stock Volantes and the brakes will be stock too....
I've been using a guy in Welshpool called, funny enough, Zincplaters.com..... He's on Radium street. Prices are ok about $200 for every nut and bolt, door strikers, bonnet rod, fuel filler, hubs etc even got the tiny clips that hold the bonnet cable to the guard done.... He is a bit hit and miss on his prep though, good idea to give it all a wire brush and polish yourself first....

My experience when buying new Gaz Gold was that they required me to send them a set of UK RS2000 stub axles to use when making up my struts.  evobda2 has mentioned already that these do have a larger bearing.  I bought some alloy wide hubs when I bought mine so didn't experience the bearing size issue.
 
If you are buying the alloy hubs rather than finding stock replacements from the UK (try EscortTec), do yourself a favour and buy them from Grp4Fabrications.com.  Torsten is fantastic to deal with and I have found his products to be faultless.  Not sure of the price but I got an email from him this week mentioning that if you buy in Euro the exchange rates are very favourable.  Nothing against Burtons its just that I bought most of my bits from Grp4 and know they are all produced in-house avoiding the risk of getting Chinese rubbish (although China has upped its game substantially over the last few years).  Just my thoughts.....
