Hi everyone, my Panelvan is a 74 MK1 Escort 8CWT with a 1300 and looking to see if anyone can shine some light on what diff it would have had standard including ratio if possible.

I currently have a MK2 Escort English/Banjo diff in my van. I know it's MK2 because the wheel nut lugs are larger then MK1, the brakes are MK2 and there are mounting points where a rear sway is capable of being mounted onto the diff.

My initial thoughts were that a original MK1 Escort diff was a English/Banjo and looked essentially the same but with MK1 wheel nut lugs, MK1 brakes and no mounts for a rear sway bar. 

I'm now starting to believe I'm on the completely wrong track because all the MK1 diffs I see on the internet are Atlas/Salisbury style diffs and after having a look I found my other MK1 escorts have Atlas/Salisbury style diffs.

So what did my Van originally have? English/Banjo diff or Atlas/Salisbury diff and would anyone know what ratio it would have been? Thanks

*Info taken from "Ford Escort Downunder". The 1970 escort (aust) was the only year the MK1 came with english axle. *71-75 1100, 1300 Auto and Manual were all Salisbury with 3.90:1

Mine's a 1975 Mk1 8CWT Deluxe that originally had a 1300, and it has a 4.11:1 Borg Warner diff in it, that I'm pretty sure has been there from factory.

Borg Warner is another style I have heard MK1 Escorts came out with. With there being 3 different diffs used in Escorts which one used what?

67cid = 1100
79cid = 1300
Diffs 1-8 are English diffs
Diffs 9-12 are BorgWarner Salisbury type (Australian made for local content I believe)

That would mean my Panelvan originally came out with a Borg Warner with a ratio of 4.11:1

Don't get confused by terminology.
 
If there is a removable plate on the back of the housing - Borg Warner
 
If the centre is removable from the front - English axle

How easy is it to change gears over in a Borg Warner? I know with a English it's as easy as unbolting the front and bolting on another one.
