Thanks guys, I'll get myself a quickshift.

Marty did you add any extra strengthening or bracing other than welding old mounts back on?

Thanks

I took away the ribbing or cut a line thru the middle then hammer it flat and Weld it back together stops it getting in the way which i do with Type9 swaps . Cause i had to replace both floors ,inner and outer sills, seat rib boxes and most of the tunnel due to rust , i replaced most metal with thicker plate where required .

Thanks

Well this has turned out to be a bigger job than expected.
Engine and box has been in and out about 6 or 7 times so far with alot of tunnel cutting and beating.

I've 'massaged' one last time and will try to fit it all up and if it doesn't go this time I'll be looking to cut the entire gearbox tunnel out from engine bay back and weld in a bigger custom fabbed one (any suppliers in AU?)

My issue is I'm also running a HE sump which is getting hung up on steering rack mounts on x-member.
I know I could drop X-member and it would probably all work, but I want it to be a proper fix where engine and box can go in and out easily.

I managed to fit the Celica steel case in my manual shell with a little massaging but I have it on the Zetec which is sitting VERY low in the car (just enough for sump to clear rack) hence it may be giving me more room around the bellhousing.

I also have a high energy sump but i have modified mine to relieve some of the fitting issues you are experiencing.  In all 4 corners of the box i have take the corners off and have also moved the inside leg of the rack mounts across to give extra clearance.  They are a pain in the a55 if you don't do this and even then still aren't easy.

That pic someone posted of the alloy case toyota box ... I reckon that may be from a RWD hilux but its just a guess.  As Shaun said it isnt a Supra box

Thanks Gdub, On Sunday I ended up removing the high energy sump and swapped it for a standard one as even with quite a bit cut out of gearbox tunnel I still can't make the engine in and out a one man job. I would have to make the mods you've outlined to get it to work well.

If anyone is after a HE sump to suit a 2lt Escort send me a PM.

Thanks,

While we're talking Toyota gearboxes, this is one I've got in the shed. Came with the orange mk1 I got ages ago and the guy said it was a Celica 5-sp. From looking at the interwebs it looks like a W58 Supra one, not a Celica. Any ideas? Its a bulky thing, surely no chance of fitting in a manual tunnel.

If you've measured the tunnel, you are spot on, It would be OK in an Auto Tunnel, Just.!!
It is a W58 Supra, if you find the numbers on the box, they will be 5m-GE, 7m-GE, or 2JZ-GE,!! ... Do you have the Stick assembly,?? ... First used in 1982,!! ... If you are interested in moving it on, I could use it in my project.!!
PM me with cash required.!!

Cheers Geoff

I was thinking of your sump problem driving home,!! ... 1, Standard sump with an Oil Cooler plumbed in, i've got one in my shed off an RX4, if that would help, it's yours.!!  ... 2, Dry Sump it, We did it in Ski Boats years ago, it didn't seem that hard at the time, no body carve ups needed, Oil Qty. unlimited,!! and use the cooler as well in front of your radiator.!!

Thanks Geoff!
I do have an oil cooler setup I intend to run so for now that will have to do.

I should get a chance to drop motor and box in again tonight to test fit.

Thanks,
