Hi, I am thinking of a 2.0 for my Mk1 and what is the best motor? Are the auto motors the same compression as the manual? Also I like the look of the Sierra 205 EFI, what are the pros and cons with this motor?

Auto's are Low Compression.

I went the EFI path. After initial teething issues with overloading th e standard ECU it runs very well.

Looks real clean. Did the brake cylinder have to go inside to fit? How much bonnet clearance is there?

Don't know about compression but the Sierra 205 has got big ports and valves in the head.

205 engine has the same compression, same valve sizes, same port sizes.

What you are thinking of is the unleaded head version, has unleaded seats, and different shape inlet tract.

I thought it was a case of the injected versions having different (better) inlet port shape, and that's about it.  Some had unleaded seats, some didn't.

head has tear drop shaped ports for better fuel delivery, port matched to both manifolds. Block standard Escort, standard bore, but decked to raise comp to 11.5:1. Standard internals balanced and blueprinted. I had to notch the engine mounts on cross member so the engine would sit lower.I fitted a pedal box to get rid of that stupid brake post

Sounds good, what gearbox are you running and it looks like the cable clutch is changed over. Did you need to lower the engine and is there much clearance between the sump and crossmember?

I'm running a Sierra Type 9 5 speed gearbox. The clutch cable is just a longer cable,(Burtons) attached to the inner guard using a hose bracket that I scrounged at Pick n Payless. There is no issues with the standard tin sump clearance. I fitted an alloy after market RS2000.Where are you located?
