Hi everyone, I'm sorting out a sound system in my van and looking for details on the original MK1 Escort sound system which came out in the panlevan?

- Details on Speakers (Size, Brand, Power Output etc)
- Speaker Location
- Radio Brand/Model

Any help will be great, thanks

OK, as far as i know the radio was an option in the MKI escort. It was a simple AM radio with ford branding on the face plate, it had a single 6 x 2 (or 2 1/2) inch speaker below the top surface of the dash.

So the MK1 Escort never came out with a radio or speakers from factory but was a option through a dealership? Is that same case for the 2/4 doors as well? Would anyone possibly know any part number for the original optional radios?

I also have a couple of 2 doors and I know they defantly had a radio and speakers. There is still the wiring in the under dash loom for a radio and there is a factory looking mount on the rear parcel shelf for a single speaker.

No, i think on the van it was an option. There was no-where to put the speakers in the back and they were not installed as they were meant as a workhorse rather than a fun driver

My first car was a mk I van
It was a little ripper model it had an eight track and radio when I got it second hand but it was only a couple of years old so I assume it came that way when new.
From memory the only speaker was under the dash.I'll see if I can find any old photos before I changed it .

That answers a lot of what I was asking. My van is a 8cwt Deluxe (Unsure what the deluxe models had to offer) and the radio was a option. That also explains the evidence that my 2 doors had a radio at some point as they are both XL's and radios were standard in them.

With the vans from my understanding must have only had one speaker located under the dash and the 2/4 doors must have had one under the dash and another in the rear parcel shelf.

I'll use the part numbers given above and see if I can find something similar to what was offered.

Thanks heaps for the pictures Phil and thanks to everyone else for their input.

From what I found looking about the internet and at old brochures, the standard mk1 radio looked like this.

Found this where someone claimed that the Radiomobile 1070X was the original radio in the E series. Unsure how true that is, could someone maybe verify this? Maybe the English Escorts had different radios?

Also found this which shows the Little Ripper Series Panelvan which appears to have a 8 stack radio. Maybe your van vmscon did originally have a 8 stack.

hak073 that picture you posted is of your car isn't it? You defiantly know that's what the car came with originally?

Typing in the part numbers listed above into Google isn't coming up with any pictures of the original radios.
