The LEDS wont dim, they are either on or off.
Check that the globes all work before you set the cluster in place, just use a 12v transformer from an old phone charger or something similar.
The copper circuitry of the cluster becomes very worn from where the plastic globe holders twist in. Check that you have enough contact with them.
I ended up wiring some globes directly to each other because of this.
Hope that helps.

Unlike normal globes leds require correct polarity,
Simply spin the
non working ones 180 degrees (if you haven't tried that already).

Bang on the Money with the polarity. Thanks very much.

I work in IT, you think i should have guessed that!. As soon as you said polarity the penny dropped.

Popped out to the garage this morning before work and spun the globes around. Sure enough, they now all work.

Thanks also to Shaul for reminding me of the binary nature of LED. On or off = No dimming. Again, a brain blank moment.

Cheers guys. LED's now working. Will wait for tonight to see how they look in the dark.

I found i had to remove the blue bulb cover to make them brighter as over time the plastic had perished a bit and wasn;t letting much light though.

I removed thjem and as I had blue LEDS it made a difference.  Be careful removing the covers though as they had become very brittle.

I am thinking of getting some of the Led's with 5 globes to make them a bit brighter.
Cheers,

Yeah the LED's i bought are a blue color, so i too removed the blue domes. Mine seemed to be in OK condition.

And along the same lines as you, I also bought (to try out), some of these in the hope that they might boost things up a bit and maybe allow me to put the original blue domes back in.

This LED thing is addictive!

You should be able to do better than those prices.

i must admit i was surprised at the cost of those higher count LED's, however i did look around (admittedly for all of about 8 minutes), and found them a fair bit cheaper.....

Will see how they go.

so just a bit of an update to this thread. I ordered a few different types on LED's and tried them all. The best ones were these ones.....

I bought them off ebay for a few dollars each.

But having said all of that, in what appears to be true escort form, even with these quite large bright LED's even though the cluster is A LOT better, its still not a patch on anything modern. So, i also bought a few blue 12 LED panels (as suggested by another forum member for the interior courtesy light), and am going to try and play around a little bit with the positions inside the cluster to see if i can throw better light around.

I also read somwhere that someone put aluminium foil inside the cluster to try and reflect more light around, i might try that too. It doesnt appear to be a matter of not enough light. It moreso appears to be a matter of the light just not being able to make it around the front of the dials.....

Anyway, hope this helps someone!.
