just looking for confirmation on what i have read in the cost dept, a mildly worked zetec, example, exhaust twin 45 webbers megajolt ect will be compared to moderatly higher worked pinto, example, head work cam twin 45 webbers exhaust ect for a fraction of the cost???
i have a mk1 in the process of rebuild and i am collecting parts and looking for options in the motor dept,
iam after something streetable that i can drive regulary but participate in the odd track day and put a mega grin on my face.

cheers

Bit of info here,

Basically it depends on what you're after.  As far as price is concerned, I doubt there would be alot of difference between the two by the time its actually in and running.

Loaded question,
But IMO, I'd go the zetec for a few reasons,
1 its been done plenty so heaps of info is available
2 Type 9 bolts up
3 plenty of conversion parts and options
4 Reliability and driveability for me Zetec wins
5 You can make it look just as right as a pinto would look in the engine bay AKA BDA replica
6 Cheap aftermarket parts ex USA
7 Lighter than pinto
8 I wasted good money on a big hp pinto build but have made similar hp and better reliability from my Zetec. Just personal experience is all.
9 its a bit of a challenge

Again its a loaded question that will depend on alot of factors, but ultimately I'd go zetec.

If you clean up your pinto block, you can use it as a man made reef in your garden pond
Go with the zetec.

Thats a bit unfair Hendo. Tell that to the Maltese who make very good HP out of a man made reef.I think they have normally apirated ones with standard Pinto cranks doing 10's at Halfar. I havent seen them use the Zetec yet and untill they do I will not share your enthusiasm especially when you hide the fact by using a BDA rocker cover.

11.9 sec NA pinto :)

Although there'd be no drivability and the cost of such a set up would pay for a zetec twice over.

Hi laurie
Hows things? are you back in town or still out the wild west?
I thought I might catch a pinto tradgic nerve end with the reef comment.
But to catch you was a surprise, and a change from you catching someone.
I know I know the ordasity of dawning such a holy artifect upon a lowly humble, almost peasent block, I sometimes wonder how I sleep at nights but it does look good and only the devout know its a fake
