Hi guys. Thought I'd mention there is a guy in Adelaide -Carroll Racing, who has just completed a range of locally produced castings for the 2.0 and 2.3l duratec: water rails, oil filter housing mods, dry sumps, bellhousing, EGR blanking kits, etc. very high quality andsig less than the UK derived stuff. Usual disclaimers -No connection, etc. cheers

One jap wrecker had these motors about half the price of the duratecs[B)]

As for ECU's iv'e been informed haltech is the go Had a read through your 2.3 Duratec install today Bill, Good work

The NA series (pop up lights) MX5 had a B6 twin cam engine which is a 1600. GMGEEMAN is currently putting one of these into a MK1 and has put plenty of info and pics on this forum.

The NB series MX5 had a "BP" engine which is an 1800 and basically the same as the KF/KH Laser TX3 and Mazda 323 SP had in them.
WOZZAH has put one of these in his MK1 with great success and he also has plenty of info about it on this forum.

The Laser/323 version of these motors are much cheaper to buy than the MX5 version but you will need an MX5 sump, pick up & water pump for RWD use.

Cheap as chips for a zetec i think I suppose the wreckers always kill you with labour costs.. How long did it take to remove the engine

I wonder if the above supplier is doing Zetec RWD components

I bought a mazda 1800 and 6 speed to do a conversion into my mk1.I stupidly assumed the 1800 was a stroked BP but it is quite a bit longer and taller. The 6 speed is huge and the shifter would be just in front of the back seat cross member.I now have a 4agze and a supra 5 speed,a beautiful gearbox that only weighs 35kgs and fits in a manual escort tunnel with minimal "tapping" and if you buy a box with the shifter at 19 inches the stick comes out the hole.

Hi Jay.

In reference to the 19 inches - is that from the front or back of the bell housing? I have a steel case that I will be dummying up soon and just curious - and hoping it fits in the manual tunnel with "minimal" mods

Hi Paul,
The measurement is from the front of the gearbox or the rear of the bell housing.I don't know if the steel case is available with different shifter positions,I haven't ever fitted one.I hope this helps Regards Ja

Hi Jay.

Yes, the steel case has a similar shifter housing to the alloy ones from what I have found.

Just measured it and it's 19" from the front of the box to the front edge of the shifter housing - so I'm sure mine won't be too far off.

Thanks.

Hi all. For those looking to using using Duratec (Ford or Mazda derivative) consider Carrol Racing castings _Adelaide for the water rails, bellhousings, dry sumps, oil filter housings, etc for conversion to N-S. The quality of his castings is quite amazing. No connection just a very very satisfied customer. Cheers Ian

NB: His water rail is one of the few that enable a Duratec to fit into an Escort. Dry Sumps designed for World Cup cross member.
