Hi Jamie

You have PM mate

hotboostgt
Dell whats your track car ?Post some pics. Im 5min from lakeside .I was a member of L.M.R.E to helped to rally to get track reopened. Its still no and never will be a v8 supercar worthy track by today standards But its a great track to take your small ford for a strap legally as I've done. Its quiet daunting a couldnt image going 2 wide at flat strap . good luck with sales not too many race Capri's left unfortunately .

No worries ... Will do
Funny you say that where you live .... Luck sod, as back in 1987 we bought at Mount Tamborine but tried real hard to purchase one of only three houses across the lake from the Carorsell !!
Was mad on tourament water skiing and had a cheap boat, was hill climbing then too.
So living there would have been my ultimate dream.
House was sh_t but had nearly 1/2 acre and backed onto the lake ( When there's water in it that is ;)  )
There was also a cattery there which had council cert and approval for a 4 pen dog kennels.

Huh ... Nothing like living the dream.
Now I live in Wentworth Fools ! near Katoomba and miles away from any race track, unless of course you consider SMP to be a race track

Back then at Lakeside before it was re-surfaced I did a 1.05 which was half quick in a historic mini.
Can't say enough to you and the group that got things happening again, as loosing Lakeside would have been tragic indeed.
I'm lucky enough to have done a few race tracks back then and aside from Bathurst and Mallalar have done most except WA. I still feel Lakeside is to me the best there is for getting the heart going quick !

.

Derek, there is an old race track at Katoomba, Catalina Park. Google it for more info and check out this youtube footage of a Datsun 1600 going around:

Thanks for upsetting my day ! ... Having said that great vid, as there aren't too many I have seen in car.
Thanks for sharing
I have done about 100 + laps round there back in the early eighties ( That's making me bloody old aye ! )
Couldn't afford a video camera back then, and if I did it would have been one of those ones the size of a loaf of bread. Maybe even Beta !!

Now I do a couple of laps round there with my dog a few times a week reminiscing what used to be with anger.
I too spent a huge amount of time at Amaroo and Oran Pk too.
Simply can't understand why we are forced to run SMP and the goat track at Gouldburn these days. Guess it's the usual thing ... Greed.

Must admit Catalina was a blast .... Had a Cooper S MK1 back then. Bored to 1380 cc with a 45 stuck into the cab ! There was always a good 510 there most times I ran.
I also ran Amaroo Hill many times and also Silverdale for those that may remember them.

Had a good mate Owen Williman beat me by hundredths of a second most days in a well sorted Twink ... He was a very well respected race engine builder for the Lotus guys, who sadly got taken early by the big C.

Anyway ...

Dunno what you guys are complaining about.....

....the authorities want us to go and buy electronic games and go racing in our lounge room.
That way the best injuries we do to ourselves is falling off the chair if we get over excited!

If you want to go motor racing just jump onto ANY street in Sydney.
There is always someone behind trying to push you to go faster.

Did Owen happen to live at Toongabbie in western Sydney?

Yep ... You obviously knew him too

I met him in 1981/2 when I had a 1963 Lotus Cortina ! one of many as I have been lucky to have had 5 over the years prior.
I even have a picture of him at Silverdale in 1984/5 where he beat me by 3 seconds. But Amaroo H/Climb he did a 26.95 and I did a 26.98.
Sold the L/C to Tony Ward - Phil Ward Turbo blokes brother, in 1987.

He sold it on to a guy in VIC who apparently spent heaps. So sad the day I sold it. Had original log book and all the right bits. Even the wheel hub cap locators had the correct date stamp. They were in the boot when I imported it, as it had " Real magnesium Minilites "
Funny how you remember things ( I have the worst memory too )

Chassis number was either as I remember Z74C065798C or maybe E on the end.
Was a March 63 car with engine number LP206 !!
Was always going to get Owen to put some L1's in it and port sort the head etc.

If I remember right, apart from the Yellow Twink he also had a Lotus Seven. Always wondered why he was a bloody school teacher !

I met him only briefly when we were teenagers in his garage at home in 1980.
My friend lived a few doors up from him.
I was amazed at the equipment he had although at the time I had no knowledge or interest in cars.
