Hi guys, ive got a mk2 2L with 4 speed, and over the space of two days my clutch pedal started to drop to the floor, to a point where i couldnt engage the clutch far enough to stop power going to the wheels, wasnt much fun seeing it was peak hour traffic.

My first thought was that a strand in the cable had snapped, stretching it, so i bought a new cable. This didnt fix the problem, and ive kept adjusting it and adjusting it and now im at the end of the thread. Its got a new clutch, so the only thing i can put it down to is a bending clutch release lever?

Am I on the right track?

I thought if trying to weld it, but id rather find one thats fine and just replace it. I found a tf cortina at upullit with 2L and 4 speed, is this the same box? Would the release lever be the same?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Ryan

G'Day Ryan,
Where are you located?

I reckon I've got one you could have, save your effort pulling one out at U-Pull-It.

I'm down South.

Rhys

One part worth buying new, if you uprate the clutch.

Thanks for the help, the clutch is just a standard replacement, i figure a second hand one will do for now, if it happens again then i may as well get a new one.

Hi,

The clutch release lever is a common issue, I have had several crack and bend. What ever you put back in make sure you strengthen it. Even if you just run some weld along that area.

Thanks Damion,

I might add some metal to brace the one i get so it wont give me any hassle in the future. I want to get one to know the exact shape it should be rather than guess with the one i have.

Cheers,
Ryan

Well i now have a new clutch lever thanks to Rhys/2lt_Scort! He even re-enforced it for me which i am thrilled about.

Im going to have a go at swapping it over in a couple of days with the help of a mate, it will be interesting to see where it was bent.

Thanks everyone for your help, its really appreciated!

you may need to look at the other end  where it pivests on the bell houseing i had one wear at the bell houseing and made a bolt and washer  to locate  it it here - - if you weld them use a welding rod for spring steel - -
