Schlutes
Not sure if anyone has covered this before however have recently fitted a set of lowered King spring to the struts on a v6 Mk1 Capri. Trouble is they are extremely noisy when turning. It appears they are moving on the top spring retaining plate which in turn causes the loud clunk. Also can anyone confirm that the orientation of the spring in the attached photos is correct.
Thanks in advance Dave

Tight coils at the top is correct.  This has been discussed in another thread a while ago.  Others including me having the same problem.  Be carefull because they jump out of the seats.  I complained to Kings but didnt get a response.  I switched to some springs from Burtons and dont have any issues now and the ride is less harsh.  My guess is that the soft section of the spring is too soft to overcome the friction in the top mount so it just unwinds during a turn and then lets go with a bang.  Very embarrasing in a car park.

The other problem is that the soft coils are too soft (for a v6) and fully compresses under load making them ineffective, so that means the car rides on the stiff section making it a harsh ride.  So much for their spiel about extensive R&D.

The Burtons springs are far superior.

I use roller bearing top mounts - so perhaps that mitigates against the jumping of the springs - gives the shock insert the ability to move freely with the strut

Thanks guys,
I think Spud might be on to something re roller tops mounts. Can anyone recommend a no fuss bolt in assembly for Mk 1 Capri?

I put these concurrent with the king springs and konis so it just worked well straight up. I think these were a one off but shouldn't be too hard to replicate

I thought about Kmac tops but the thought of stiff springs and urethane tops was a deal breaker so I got recond rubber tops from Germany and faced the top of my spring seats.
