I'm after a drop tank for my Mk2.
It was a 1.3 so it had the side tank but i'm after the under boot one. I would also need the straps and mounts.
 
What have you got? Preferably in Melbourne.

I guess you are refering to the alloy tanks that sit up behind the rear bulkhead on a platform, with a curved cutout to allow for the spare wheel to lie flat on the boot floor. Fuel filler is usually in a bowl mounted on the upper boot opening flange near the RH  hinge. Every 2nd Escort in Classic Ford/Retro Ford magazines has one of these it seems. Some people just mount a fuel cell in the middle of the boot floor and lose a lot of luggage space. Another option if you're flush with funds is the mk2 RS plastic tank which replaces your current side tank with a wider plastic tank, about 68lt capacity and uses the same side filler. These are fairly rare and need to be imported S/H from Europe, usually sourced off ebay although there are a few in Australia which occasionally come up for sale. These usually cost over a grand though!  People have also successfully welded in a 'widening' band into the standard side tank after cutting it in half,  and also found an appropriate sized & shaped tanks out of other cars and mounted these behind rear bulkhead - lots of options.

You will also need the filler neck, strap mounts and part of the rear panel too (as well as the straps).
 
I did this conversion a number of years ago and it is NOT a bolt on and requires cutting and welding...(ie no going back)

Thanks Nick, I don't think i am that serious any more after reading up on it and hearing what people have said. I might just stick to the side tank. Might see about getting a bigger one though.
I did like the look of a drop tank but it seems like a lot of work. 

Good luck trying to find one of the original RS option big side tanks in the UK... They go for big money (RS option only originally and quite rare then) and a quite rare now from what I have seen / read...
 
Never seen 1 for sale in Aus in 20 years and only seen 1 in the flesh in Aus... 
 
 
All Mk2 2Lts used the Aussie drop tank under the boot floor, and so did the later 1.6Lt cars... Only the very early Mk2's in 1.3 and 1.6lt for used the side tank.  If you are looking for a side tank to use with a 2Lt - try to find the sender unit from an early M2 1.6Ghia - as they have the return line into the tank for the Weber 32/36 (in addition to the fuel out).  Almost all others have only the fuel out line for the VV carby.  You can just block off the return line at the carby, but it does put a little extra stress on the needle n seat in the float chamber (but it does work OK)...

If you were keen on the plastic tank let me know and I could show you one and give you a lead on one that could be available for sale locally. But they aren't cheap. On the plus side they never rust out though!  If you weren't racing (ie running low fuel levels & generating high cornering G's) then you could probably get away without a surge tank provided you kept a reasonable fuel level in the tank.  The fuel pick-up is at the base like a standard steel side tank.

Hi guys I might just stick to the side tank. Has anyone seen them widen for more capacity?
That was my main reasoning for the drop tank. I will just have to get a later fuel sender unit for the return line.

I was sort of on a budget so I thought the drop tank would be affordable. So I think the plastic tanks is out if the question
