MY "Pacemaker" Extractors which seem to be chromed steel, could do with a freshen up, as they have around 33% light surface oxidation
I suspect the factory painted the Block etc in black................I have a new can of 1200 deg Fahrenheit Dupli-Colour High Heat with ceramic Paint. Maybe paint Extractors same colour ?  ..............I invite as many answers/recommendations re Black on Extractors as i priced re-chroming or other surface processes and it's as dear as buying NEW extractors !

I await eagerly for all of "youses" opinions !

cheers..............Bernie

The 3M 600deg paint that supercheap used to sell was a great product. it's still wearing well on my pipes 2.5+ years later. It did smoke off a little when I had an idle jet issue 12 months ago, causing the engine to run lean.

I can't comment on the other brands but i've read a lot of negative comments about the products which are avail now especially the ceramic type paints.

My advice would be to try this stuff. It's silicone based &  good for 540deg

How do you intend to key the new paint onto the chrome plating?

None of those paints work long term.  The only thing that does is HP Coating.

Define long term? I think 2.5 years for a $15 can of paint is bloody good value. If it were a $1000 set of custom pipes then i can understand spending $300 on ceramic coating . But for someone who has some used genies / pacemakers etc and wants to tidy them up and preserve them, a good quality paint is the winner

Thanks for the helpful replies.............
the chrome is 33% lightly oxidided, so thought do them 100% with the  wire wheel to "key" the surface for the 1200 deg paint

Does anyone know if my 72 GTV6 PAINT ON THE ENGINE BLOCK & HEAD is Satin Black or Gloss Black ?
...........also, is the GEARBOX meant to be BLACK as well ?

.......................................................................... I assume alloy items like Timing Cover and Intake manifold is
left in its natural unfinished state. I was going to 'clear coat' them but seen too many look crap when they peel even after professional preparation, so will leave well enough alone....... Plus it could look like you're trying to make a
"silk purse out of a sow's ear" (showing my age with that one !) ............plus want to keep her stock other than "internal engine enhancements" not visible from the outside !

If the pipes are already chromed no paint will stick to them properly

RE AMELIORATING THE PITTED/OXIDISED CHROME EXTRACTORS.......................
Maybe the answer to "improved looks" is to wrap the extractors with heatproof tape ?
Answers welcome from anyone...............more the merrier !
Thanks to "yous-all" !

Exhaust wrap is now available in different colours so maybe There might be one to match your colour scheme. Expensive answer is to have extractors stripped and re-chromed or pick up a good second hand pair.

I like the heatproof wrap look when done nice and neat. You can get it in black like colour now too which i think looks better than the standard tan colour. Its going to cost more than a can of exhaust paint though.

Ultimate obviously being the ceramic coatings.
