hey Guys, I found this forum a few weeks ago, and have been stunned by some of the cars and resto's done, having read through the pages finally. Some of the escort and Capri posts have inspired me to join, and show you mine as they say. Story goes this is the first car I ever bought, at 19. Its a standardish 1600  manual, factory pastel blue, for $1800 from memory. A basic reno was done when I was around 20 and on poor mans wages, paint,cam,balance,blueprint, and sunroof (it was the 90's don't forget, oh and an Oakley sticker).. Fast forward 20+ years, kids,houses,etc. later and it's still in the garage. A company car means it gets driven very little, actually 4 years ago was the last spell. During that time though, it was always a stored ok, and checked. About 6 months ago, I got the bug again, and found a few bits on ebay. It's still more of a buzz to drive the Capri than the 'daily drive', despite not going, stopping,cornering, no ABS,a/c cruise.....

My first car was a Jewel Green 1970 Deluxe Capri, I sold it to buy a 72 Lime Glaze V6 that had been (poorly) resprayed silver.  The green car got written off by the new owner in about 1990, I never knew what happened to my silver car, I thought I found it once but could never confirm that it was my old car

Hey Deano welcome to the forum. I just love your capri,hang onto it forever.
 My first car was a standard 10 in 1966 haha then a zephyr then a mini then in 1968 things started to pick up and i got a mk1 cortina gt, I loved that car and drove the wheels off it. Then I traded that for a mk1 escort twincam which incidently was the same colour as your capri. This was traded for a mk1 capri v6 which then was traded for a mini clubman because of the fuel scare of the time. So stupid I know anyway in 1976 i bought red pepper which i have now and will never sell. Just sayin, dont sell your capri.

My 1st car was a '72 mk1 escort 1100 coup in mustard color back in 1987, a full drum braker at that , but had a mint black interior. I kept that car till 1996 , after pouring lots of money at it to go faster and handle. .. learning what works and what don't. Sold it with a mild pinto , Twink flares and 6.5x13 alloys. I was told the car still survives and in a shed defected!
Next was a mk2 escort coup in Tango orange. .i still have it today tho not driven for 7yrs , it's got all the upgrades i learnt from the mk1, strong pinto , LSD , rear disk, front vents and volvo 4pots , Capri struts , Sierra 5sp , list goes on . Somewhere in the late 90's i bought a mits Cordia GSR Turbo but i never left the Escort . 7yrs ago i got a inheritance so i retired the mk2 and bought a Focus ST170 till unfortunately written off by a 4x4, replaced with a fiesta ST and now I drive a Focus ST225(XR5), But new cars just don't have the soul like the old fords .
Glad you've kept your Capri , it's a nice one and don't let it go , i regret not keeping my 1st car.

In the duty of full disclosure, and in prompted by Rons warning above, I did sell a Capri that of course I now regret..
(imagine tears as I type this) Around 15 years ago I was told of a daily driven, original mustard color,registered, matching numbers 71 V6 GT manual being sold by a friend of a friend. I went and bought it,REGISTERED, and DROVE IT HOME for $300.00. At the time, I had nowhere to store it, and could not afford to do restore it (was complete but needed full resto) and just wanted it for a few parts. So I stripped the parcel shelf, rostyle wheels, GT bonnet, and onsold it for $300 again. Idiot. The new owner checked it out, cleaned the points and assured me a few weeks later it goes like a rocket.
Anyhow, ce la vie.

Nice looking car Deano, clean simple and stylish. Keep it that way for sure.
I Learnt to drive in a Mk1 sprite, learnt handbrake turns in an MG Midget, thanks mum, first race was in a Mini, first trophy in the race midget. My first street car was A MK1 golf, went through 3 engines 5 heads and multiples of everything else. Traded that on a new suzuki swift and spent the cash that would just keep the VW running on modifying the suzuki. Kept it for 330,000 Km's and 13 years. saw me through university and through 4 escorts 3 falcons, a cortina and several girlfriends.
Sold that to finance the last touches renevating the Mk1 escort race car which I have had since 1993 when I swapped my sister for something for it.
Have then had another 2 falcons still have the AU Ute and my dream AWD suzuki swift GTi (AWD Cultus) a daily $400 swift buzz box and the next iteration on my ultimate race car

That's in great nick, very nice!  My first Capri was my second car after a Gemini van.   It was a white matching numbers 71 v6.  I sold it to a 17 year old as his first car.  I had lots of other cars but never settled so went looking for another one and found another white matching numbers V6, 1972 this time.  When looking for parts at a local wreckers there was my first capri written off.  Felt sick on seeing it.  My second was my daily drive for 15 years and now 25 years since buying it it is almost fully rebuilt for the second time, just waiting to finish a beach buggy project before the strip and respray.
