Thanks for the reply guys, both fuel pumps are second hand and dont really know anyone in Canberra that could lend me a working on. Do you guys know of anywhere i can buy a good quality new fuel pump? I have seen some on ebay but not sure which makes are better.
Matt i did crank the engine with the fuel line off the carbie and no fuel came out, it is not even getting to the fuel pump as i do not see any fuel being sucked into the fuel filter which is mounted just before the fuel pump.
Will keep at it tomorrow but might look at buying a new fuel pump.

There are a few on eBay in Oz around the $100 mark but if you can wait a bit you can can get them much cheaper from the UK.

Links - Oz - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GOSS-FUEL-PUMP-MECHANICAL-FORD-CORTINA-ESCORT-TRANSIT-2-0L-SOHC-PINTO-ENGINES-/150782912757?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item231b5ca8f5#ht_2471wt_698

UK -  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-CAPRI-ESCORT-CORTINA-MK3-GRANADA-PINTO-NEW-UNIPART-FUEL-PUMP-/251039615169?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a732088c1#ht_894wt_698

They also have them on ebay USA too.

Get a new pump and see how you go.  Sounds like you have crossed everything else out.

Let us know how you get on.

Good luck

I have heard bad things about the Goss ones, would it be worthwhile getting a better brand?

Not sure to be honest but it probably works better than your one!

Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Ok guys,
Have double checked everything, tested both Fuel Pumps in a container of fuel and appears that one is faulty, the other one has been put back on with fuel primed. The good news is that now i am getting fuel to the carby! The Car now starts while under starter and while the throttle is down but does not idle, will now have to look at carby adjustments but if anyone has any tips please share them :)
Thanks,

Excellent, just screw in the idle speed screw and that'll get you going.

Do you have an owners manual to show you how to set idle mixture etc?

Here's a pic of the idle speed screw.  Screw it in until the car stays at idle.

Hi Guys,
Ok have played around a little with the idle speed and mixture screws, the car still wont idle if i dont crank the starter. If i hold the key in the starter position it seems to run but as soon as i release the key into the normal position the car stalls, this happens even if i hit the throttle. Same if i rev the engine with the throttle as soon as i release the starter the car stalls. Does anyone have any idea's? Maybe an ignition issue instead of fuel mixture?
Thanks,

Sounds like an ignition problem.

You could try running 12volts direct to the coil from the fuse panel and see if that works.

How is it wired up?  Post some pics, a picture says a thousand words.

Cheers,

Matt
