Ok I have checked the fuel lines for blockages and also suck fuel through to prime the lines. The fuel lines are the correct way on the sender and assuming they are the correct way on the fuel pump! The big thing is that I am unsure if the push rod is functioning properly, if I remove the pump and get someone to crank the engine I initially see the push rod move once in and out and then looks like its stopped moving!

Will try and post photos of the fuel pump, but would like to know how to check the push rod properly :)

Thanks again :)

The pushrod is not physically attached to the eccentric on the aux shaft. If already in, it would move out & stop.
It's a while since i've pulled a fuel pump off, but I think the pump plunger is spring loaded, & thus keeps the pushrod on the eccentric

Don't assume anything as you'll make an ass out of you and me!

Make sure they are on right to begin with as this is an easy fix.

If you have no blockage in the lines then either the fuel pump is knackered or there is an issue with the auxillery shaft maybe.

Did you try removing the fuel hose fro the carbie end and cranking the engine?

Could be your carbie is not set up properly too.

Cheers

OK i have been able to suck fuel from the fuel tank into the fuel filter but still unable to start.
Have attached a photo of one of the fuel pumps i have, is the way i labelled correct?

That's wrong how you have it connected. Also the pump should be mounted so that carby spout points up towards the carby.

Ok so I should reverse the order, will give it a try. I have always had the carby pipe pointing up and the pipe to fuel tank pointing down so that is not the issue :)

Here is a pic of my set up showing the top hose going to the carby.

You need to disconnect the line from the carby itself and crank the engine and see if fuel comes out of the hose.  This will tell you if the pump is working or not.

OK i have disconnected the line for the carby and no fuel. As stated above i am not getting fuel to the fuel filter unless i suck it in. I have cabled the fuel pump properly now with no change. Attached is a photo of the carby setup does it look correct? As fuel is not getting to the fuel filter which is inbetween the fuel tank and the fuel pump doesnt it mean it is the fuel pump or line and rules out the carby? Though i have tried two fuel pumps unless both are faulty? This is starting to get irritating :)

As always thanks all for the helpful advice and look forward to future comments.

Were the pumps you used 2nd hand or new?  If they were 2nd hand I would probably say that you just lucked out and got another stuffed one.  Do you know anyone who owns a car with a running pinto in it?  Ask them if you can borrow their pump or bolt yours onto their engine and see what happens

It looks like it's hooked up fine.

Did you crank the engine with the fuel line off the carbie?
