Aren't they 3k each for the guards? People won't pay 500 for a second hand one, I can't see them coughing 3 large for a new one

True - probably about 2k each landed

so was it the fact that the guard was only a repair part Sud that dictated your cut line? Many of the guards I have see (including my own) had died because of rust on the top  rear edge, near the traditional antenna hole.
These sections don't get replaced in a patch panel like yours.
I'd probably be more included to fork ou the $2k if it was a complete panel, up to the spot welded flange.

Did you count how many tacks it took to complete?

these were about $800/pair from memory. Each tack was done in love, it was such an overwhelmingly enjoyable experience- I lost count half way thru 😌

Sounds perfect to me. Most are gone from a crash up front or rust in rear. Leaving original welds in place and tacking like you’ve done Spud will leave a factory finish. Coat the original seem with penetrol etc. Much cheaper and honestly a better repair. Unless you have $3500 to pay for a full guard extra probably with custom duty,Gst etc.

Yes if u grope up underneath the guard all you can feel is the neat return I made - oh well, I did it so I could squeeze the 13 x 7 rebels under the guards - my favourite wheel

Any progress is good besides modifications take time to get right but worth it in the end.
