Hi everyone,

My van uses a wide bracket bolted to the underside of the body to mount the top of the shock absorbers; Mk1 owners are probably familiar with these as I gather it is the same arrangement. The car was quite a mess when I bought it (I've lost count of how many things I've had to fix), and this is another area that I think has been botched. Can someone please confirm whether:
(1) there is any thing separating the top of the bracket from the underside of the floor, e.g. a rubber pad or similar
(2) if so, did the bolts run through them as is, or was there a metal sleeve through the rubber pad
(3) and (just for laughs) is one mounting bolt meant to be metric and the other imperial?

I've seached the internet for a diagram, but can't find anything that clarifies the assembly of this part of the suspension.

Thanks!

Hi Flighter,
Does this help?
Copied from "The Bible".
Yes there is a crush tube in there: P/N 18199.
Maybe copy image into a photo library and then enlarge.
