G'Day,

Chasing problems with my fuel and temp gauges.

Fuel gauges works rarely, temp never worked.

I have now swapped out temp gauge for one that atleast reacts when earthed, temp sender is new, wire from sender to back of dash has continuity.

My research tells me to check voltage regulator, is there one for the instruments alone? If so where is it?

Car is a late Mk1 and has alternator with it own voltage reg rather than dynamo and seperate voltage reg.

Cheers,
Rhys

The regulator is the little rectangluar silver can on the back of the instrument cluster (I think).

Same as the Mk2 Voltage reduction unit ??  Input is 12v, reduces to 5v  .If you test it and its stuffed then any of the electronics repair places should be able to make one with little difficulty. I got 2 made for 6 bucks, opened up the canister and ditched the guts of it, soldered in the resistor and put it back together again. Looks original from outside, heaps cheaper than trying to source 2nd hand / replacement item.   Len

Thanks for the responses guys. There is no voltage reg on back of either k1 Escort dash I have and I have never seen one on a Mk1? Does anyone have a pic.

Mixing and matching bits between dashes I have got one to work intermittently, more on than off now but temp and fuel needle readings vary slightly with revs of the car.

Still unsure if theres a voltage reg tucked up under the dash somewhere?

Thanks,
