Hey guys,

Anyone with a mk2 escort mind taking me a couple of photos of the boot tension rods? Have put mine back in
but obviously not correctly as they arent holding the boot open. Maybe have put them in the wrong way around
or something. Couple of happy snaps would hopefully enlighten me....

Cheers

If you've added a boot spoiler it could be the problem, that's what happened to mine anyway.

Boot spoiler yes but it wasn't staying open before that went on. Obviously won't be helping but think there is something else playing a part.

How much tension have you got on them? There are 3 notches, so you might have to put on the top one maybe. be prepared for a tussle, it requires some muscle to move them up, the rods are spring steel and need some pressure. Will see if I can get some photos, got a new phone so don't know how it will go!

this is an old thread, and Lee I'm sure your sorted know.
But for anyone else in the future I've just retensioned my ones, there's a convenient whole in each hinge support, allowing you to insert a decent bar for leverage. Increasing the tension is done by levering each bar end to the outermost of the 3 notches (towards you), and if you wrap a thin rope around the tension rod end, after using the screwdriver/bar, its pretty do-able.

Nice pics peter m. They leave nothing to chance. I also like the original plastic clip altho on my capri the rods would still clatter against each other so i installed a short length of plumbing pipe lagging on one rod. That fixed the problem and now the plastic clip joins my growing collection of original parts.

Thanks Peter. It all becomes so clear. My rods are in the wrong way which is why they aren't doing much.
Will pull them out and re-install them. Appreciate that.
