Who has strengthened an english axle housing for gravel rallying and how did you do it? I've seen the brace underneath, but what about an alloy piece like on a group 4 atlas? Ok go!!

I've done a couple over the years, either use 2in RHS and weld it across the back or underneath but not any lower than the diff centre lump.. I'll take a few pics when i get home

Finally got to take pics.. The first one is my zetec mk1 Escort Mexico and the other is my mk2 escort I've had for 20+yrs , awaiting resto. Plenty of webs n wildlife down there lol..

These should help decide how to tackle beefing the housing up.

Thanks mate, ground clearance is good to have, the second photo is a good option.

I noticed this a while ago. New axle cases with bushes new the diff to support the shafts and keep the oil in the diff. http://www.spcomponents.co.uk/gpage5.html
