I kinda posted a reply to a question in the Capri section so I re posted here in the relevant section.
 
My application is on a 1976 Ford Escort Van MK2.
 
I have a Hispec brake kit Princess 260 / 4 was told that I need a mod plate for a QLD roadworthy.
A QLD transport Mod Plate engineer or "Approved Person"  asked for supporting documentation from the manufacturer including documentation stating that they are for road use. Does anybody knoiw if there is a "Type Approval" for this kit?
 
Does SMAKKA sell this kit now?
 
Any advise on getting a mod plate, which approved person might pass the kit the easiest / cheapest and an idea of cost information would be helpful.
 
My escort is in the workshop at the moment but should be out and on the road after many years soon. I will post up some pictures and other information for you all then.

You`ll have to go through an engineer for this i reckon. These were never factory options and need to be balanced with the front brakes so go to an engineer, they`ll be able to sort things out for your DOT inspection
 

I had my focus rear brake conversion engineer checked and plated in Townsville. Cost $400 for full checkfor road use and am fully covered for insurance. Much easier using OEM set up. I was prepared to show receipts from wreckers and from brake shop for full overhaul but wasn't needed. Len

 
Here is the info for the Hispec M16 caliber used. As its based on the Ford M16 calliper and made to maintain a similar brake pedal feel as standard. It has hi temp dust seals which is what you require. Not sure if its bolt on though.. they may require additional brackets etc.

With the greatest deal of respect to those that sell and have used the Hispec and Willwood type of replacement calipers for the M16 you are wasting your money. The rigidity and clamping force of the M16 is superior. For normal road and track day use any of the better caliper kits for the M16 will provide appropriate seals and can handle very high temps. You certainly don't require replacement calipers for a van. The availability of pad compounds is almost endless. If you need to replace the M16 (and this is only in exceptional competition applications) then an appropriate AP or Brembo or similar quality combination is recommended. If you require this superior type of caliper then I or any reputable race brake supplier can help. For normal to track day use we would recommend a vented rotor (mk3 Capri) kit and at a minimum the Ferodo DS Performance with DS 2500 for track day use. Many other pads with master cylinder combinations are also great subject to driver preference and event application. Trust me, save your money and upgrade the standard brakes with vented rotors, caliper kit and appropriate pads.

I probably should have researched my purchase more before commiting, what you have written makes sense, I made a knee jerk reaction to seized brake pistons and marketing got the better of me. However I got there its too late now and I will have to live with it. I did end up having to get a mod plate for it as well as for the 5 speed and for some crazy reason they mod plated the 711m engine even though it was a factory option over the 1.3 auto that was in it. All up the mod plate was $360 for the 3 items, i was under the impression that if it were the brakes alone it would be around $180.
I called up Allianz to get insurance the other day and as a result of the mod plate they wont insure it.
 
Just to clear up some confusion, it was the front brake kit.

Why do you need to mod plate a 711M (1600) engine? They were a standard engine for mk2 escort. Im sceptical on needing one for the gearbox too.. I would be asking for your money back. 
 
Really you don't even need one for mk1 as per the UK mk1 Mexico. s long as you have the required brakes etc.
 

 

Seems silly they won't insure for something so simple as a brake upgrade, particularly for safety and engineer approved. Because of the level of mods in my Escort I just went straight to Shannons for insurance, most others won't even look at old cars, modded or not. Their rates are quite good and no problem with level of mods- engine,T9,LSD 4 wheels discs( engineered )coilover front, antidive kit......etc. Only a quick call to find out...
