Hi all, I removed my head on my 1600 the other day to put on a new rebuilt head on as a replacement and as it was removed I found something I didn't particularly want to see. My cylinders were filled with water so I guess while the head is removed I mise well rebuild the remaining motor.

I was wondering what should I replace while the motor is pulled apart? Pretty much looking for a list of replacement parts. At the moment I have a list with only piston rings, conrod bearings and main bearings. Cheers

You may not need anything except a new head gasket & your re-built head.!!
Did you drain your coolant before removing the existing head.???

No I didn't touch the coolant prior to removing the head but the car has been sitting around for quite some time and when I turned the engine over by hand it took a bit of effort to initiate with the head removed. My guess is that the water has been sitting in the cylinders for as long as the car has been sitting. I am defiantly going to replace the piston rings but thought while I have the engine pulled apart I should also do a more in depth rebuild
