The charcoal canister is one item of the emissions control system that serves a useful purpose without inhibiting performance in any way, so why not retain it and help keep the air a little bit cleaner?

its a valid question , with no justifiable reason to do away with it. It will be kept.

I thought you didn't have all the parts to connect it properly????thus removing it. it wont be useful unless connected correctly!

Yep get a pre pollution themo housing to get rid of the 'tree'
You can do away with the flap on the air cleaner and no one will really notice.
The carbon canister is not much use without a return line and the other bits but looks good to the constabulary.
The one I'd sort is the vacumn advance, otherwise have the dissy re-curverd, it seemed to fix a hot webered kent engine I had....
Hope that hasn't confused it any more.....

RS2000 - looks like I'm getting confused here :). You are right, I don't have all the right parts. I was getting confused with the "T-Piece" arrangement we spoke about in an earlier post. I do have all the right air cleaner parts to connect that TPiece hose into.

Aside from the return line, and open hose on the bottom, where does the other connector on the charcoal canister go?.....or is that back to the multitude of switches etc....that I don't have?

Sorry, I do admit I got confused there

Haha
The t piece is where the hot air flap connects to......

Return line??I am assuming you are referring to fuel tank vapour line.
The other line is purge line, it connects to a purge control vacuum switch, manifold vacuum, temp switch (vacuum tree) and ported vacuum.

Thanks RS 2000 - yeah I do mean fuel tank vapor line (thanks for correcting my terminology).

Sounds to me like there is no really easy way for me to hook up the last line on the canister, in an effort to leave it there.

As per your suggestion, I am going from the ported vacuum (on the bottom of the carby), to the outer connection of the vac advance. I don't have any vacuum switches, but I do have the vaccum tree on the thermo housing, and the vacuum connection on the manifold. Would I be going backwards if I hooked it up to these?.

Or perhaps just straight to the manifold vacuum (in an effort to hook it up to "something" to make it "look" like its in use) - without affecting performance?.

Connect the purge line to inlet manifold vacuum but put a ball Bearing or similar in the hose to block it. Or for neatness and shorter hose leave it in that t piece just block the hose.
This will make your canister look connected and not cause any running issues.

Thanks RS2000. Will do.

Just need to find some ball bearings the right size to suit!.

haha, I have a jar full of all different sizes. Can use anything really, I use ball bearings coz they're inconspicuous and easy to fit. Another idea is to cut a 4mm(or any suitable diameter)bolt and slide it in the hose.....

cheers RS........might go down the bolt path until I find some suitable sized bearings.

Ive got that tingling feeling that things are getting close to a running car!. :)

THe only thing ill have left to do is the outside body work (respray and general ding reapirs).........I was going to leave it for a while, but I just know its going to irk me too much having done all this other work.!
