Hi guys,

Trying to get rings for Cosworth "racing" pistons that I bought from PEC a year or so ago. Neither Cosworth UK or PEC have rings for them - yeah, go figure!! Cosworth say that these were "special" build for PEC and they made no spare parts for them - great! PEC say speak to Cosworth. Awesome!

I haven't checked the dimensions - I can possibly use standard (i.e. Mahle OE) type rings, but I am not even sure that that is a good idea given these pistons are meant to be "good" pistons for a hipo engine.

Has anyone come across this before or knows where I ight be able to try to get some replacement rings?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi Ash,

Sorry can;t really help but I had exactly the same issue with PEC - I got some pinto slipper pistons and damage an oil ring on installation. PEC couldn't supply a ring set or any spares and reckoned thier next batch run would be a good year plus away! F*&kers...

Paul.

Thanks for the reply Paul - at least I'm not alone.

What did you end up doing?

For everyone else, this is obviously something to watch out for when buying pistons. I always assume that my pistons are going to last a few rebuilds, so not being able to get replacement rings makes them next to useless for a car/engine that will be a keeper.

I did eventually source a single ring set with matching oil ring dimensions - it was a different design so my #3 piston might not be balanced to the other 3 (for 50 quid I assumed I was getting a full set).
