Hey fellas,
 
Can someone please offer me some advice for re jetting my single DCOE 40 weber?
I have it on a standard low compression 711M motor and it runs great. Specs are 65 starter, 35 pump, 45F9 idle, 40ex, 200 air, 130 main, 32 choke.
Now I want to put a different engine in the escort. High compression 711M with a 234 cam. What changes need to be made to my weber? Cheers

Bump. The motor is in and is running great. It has heaps more power, chirping around corners in 2nd
 
I think I can squeeze a bit more from it with better jetting. I'm sure the idle could go one richer. Daniel from weber performance thinks a 150 main would be too big, 140 being better.
Any suggestions from the forum? Thanks

You probably won't really know or get it spot on unless you get it on a dyno.
 
Then you can throw in lots of jets etc.. to get the best out of it.
 
Otherwise you are sort of just taking an educated guess.

After making this post I sat down and read my haynes weber manual purchased a while back. It was a pleasant surprise to find an appendix in the back showing the exact carbs and set up for many weber conversions.
e.g 1275 mini cooper S: 45DCOE13 (1)  38 choke  5.00 1.60 F16 1.70 0.45F9 0.50 1.00 2.25
It did have 1600xflow cortina but was jetting for twin 40's.
40DCOE2 (2)  32chokes  4.5 1.20 F16 1.80 0.50F9 0.40 0.50 2.00
 
I think if I cross reference enough of these set ups and read a little more into DCOE operating principals I should get a good result.

Any book, chart or advice from others is a GUIDE only.  If they're already on there and running the only way to get them spot on is on a dyno, otherwise you have no idea what you're changing and why your changing it.

I know where you're coming from wozza. For me the costs of dyno tuning outweigh any performance benifits of the 1.6
Jets are cheap, if some minor jetting changes don't improve things I'll most likely leave it as-is.

Dyno tuning is far cheaper than melting a piston because you tried to run it too lean, or burning out valves becuase it was too lean on the cruise.........
 
Jets are cheap, engines aren't, do it once, do it properly.......

Suggest you don't place too much faith in plug colour.  Time was with leaded fuel black represented rich, brown represented OK and white represented lean.  Unleaded fuel burns black right across the spectrum.
