Ok it's no longer legal to put a V8 into a Escort. But even if it wasn't, why the hell would you want to?? There's so many other legal engine choices these days that would get the same power (and some) and much better drivability, balance, ect, ect.

The only reason I can think of is that V8 sound that we all love. Apart from that fact, a V8 Escort is a dinosaur.

Yeah good if you want to drag but will understeer like a pig unless your running say 6 degrees camber.

Engine capacity size is worded as largest 'recommeneded'.....

MOST engineers wont pass any higher than that however it IS still possible however most unlikely.

I do know of one MK1 cortina that is still being built with V8 for reg and is still passing regular engineer/tech inspections.

While I love modern technology, esp the jap 4/6 turbo engines I completely dissagree with V8's being dinasaurs.

Have you seen some of the new technology in recent cylinder head development?

(Dont forget the dinosaur powered LS9 corvette originally lapped Nurmburgring quicker than the new 'more technology than NASA' Nissan GT-R)

and I'm guessing an all alloy windsor will weigh less than an SR20DET!!!

If you do need any info on LS1's. measurements etc, check out this thread - http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?151653-Is-it-possible-to-put-in-a-ls1-in-Escort

That said,

Just throw a jap front cut in it like everyone else! It is the way to go for a reason. It'll be cheaper in the long run and you will be able to get reg.

I doubt the 2.4L V8 in the latest Ariel Atom is a dinosaur - combined with it's air operated sequential flappy paddle 6spd box [:p] Aparently it's 2 Hayabusa heads on a common bottom end.

500Hp and 500kg [:u]

2.8L with over 1000hp :P

its still possible in SA to engineer a v8 escort. my Boss has bought a 351 2door.

[x2x][x2x] I was refering to the traditional V8 transplants. You know, like a 302W/C, 351W/C, 308, 350 Chev, ect, ect.

Are you guys for real?? All alloy Windsor??, Ariel Atom??? Talk about more $$ than sense. If you could afford any of those engines, why would you even think of transplanting it into an Escort?? Again, more money than brain cells for sure. [V]

Here's a 5L alloy block V8 crate engine. You could have this landed for about 9-10K. If you ran all the 2010 Mustang emissions gear with it you could probably get it on the road (depending of course on the engineer who'd have to sign it off)

Not exactly the most expensive project escort around if you chose to do it.
