Hi guys,

Well I can finally unveil the painted shell!!!

I'm sure some of you were wondering if I even had a Capri as its been so long since I started this project. The car is finally home after a stint at the panel shop. I took it there as a bare metalled shell with lots of the work already done. I am very happy with the end result and now the reassembly begins - hopefully I can remember how it all goes together [x2x]

Some of you know that me and my family are moving to Ireland in early June (4 weeks [:I]), so the rush is on to get it on its wheels and drop the running gear in. Yes, the car is coming with me to Ireland!

A little background on the build, it started as a 1969 1600GT auto, original colour was Grecian Gold. When i bought it, it was electric blue with Ford Telstar seats and seatbelts just bolted into holes drilled through the floor - safety FAIL !! The car was a bit of a basket case but too good to wreck.

I built a rotissary and fixed the rust in all the usual places - except the rear wheel arches which were done by the panel shop. I also converted the B pillars to later model so I could have the higher seatbelt mounts.

The car will be running a 302 windsor, T5 5speed box and a shortened BW diff (ex-Falcon). Brakes are R32GTR Skyline 4 pots on VT Commodore rotors (Blanks drilled to Ford stud pattern) on the front, and AU Falcon disks on the rear.
Wheels are Superlite 16x7 and 16x8.
Interior will be factory spec black with lowback seats.

Anyway, here are some pics as it stands now. I will try and post some updates on my progress if people are interested.

Wow! That looks amazing Steve! It will be a shame to see it (and you of course!) leave the country before it's finished, but wish you all the best with getting it rolling for the move.

I have just finished working on it tonight - refitted just the leaf springs so I could try and work out wheel clearance and how much I have to shorten the diff. Unfortunately I may have to go to a narrower rear tyre. I was trying 225/50/16 but may have to drop down to a 215 as I have very little clearance left. I will pick up a length of 70mm diam pipe tomorrow to use as a substitute axle - this will allow me to keep the wheels vertical and get a true idea of the clearance I have available. I will try and get some pics of this step.

Jamie, the colour is actually VW Candy White. Despite the name is isn't a candy colour - it is from the current range of VWs. I chose it because I wanted a shade of white that shows up the shape and contours of the car. I think it works well but I was nervous making the choice.

Mud, that footage is awesome. The Irish sure love their MkII Eskys - I will have to check out that place!!

Well unfortunately I will have to go to a slightly narrower tyre. As suspected, they will fit but the clearances are a little too close for comfort.

I used a piece of PVC pipe to simulate an axle so that I could make sure the wheel was sitting square to the car.





With the wheel set to clear the wheelarch, the clearance to the leaf spring is a little tight.




I will try and get the tyres swapped over on Friday so that I can do a final measurement for the diff shortening.

So I moved on to assembling my front struts.
Koni inserts went in, Strut-mates to protect them, followed by UPC 5 stud hubs. The bearing grease caps I ordered were supplied incorrectly so am waiting correct ones to arrive.




Test fit of the discs - 296mm should stop well. They absolutely dwarf the original brakes




On to dummying up the calipers. There will be a bit of mucking around with a caliper adapter but I reckon I should be able to work something out.
Yes, I will be removing the Nissan logo !!!

nice brake setup youre 296mm dwarfs my 260mm lol.
Can I ask where and how much were the koni's as I'm struggling to find a decent insert for my rebuild. Awsome job
