hey was wondering if anybody has done the v6 explorer sohc efi to carby conversion

i know there is a mob in the states that sell's the whole kit to go efi back to carby

just thinking of  a option to use instead of using the original matching number engine  ..

i want this car to be a weekend driver  so thinking this may be the way to go just to cruise about and lay some rubber down ..

Are you talking the whole motor or just using the efi conversion onto the essexv6?

the whole engine sohc v6 4.0ltr or the pushrod version they have kits for both in the usa to convert back to carby

may sit a little higher in the bay but i can just get a glass bonnet to hack up if needed

its just a option if i find a v6 3,0 ltr for good price within my budget  ill get that

You would need to check with your engineer as to wether the vehicle requires an emissions test if the engines original EFI system is removed.

Most states require the emissions regulations of the donor engine to be met when doing an engine conversion in an older vehicle.

have already tried to buy 2 v6 3.0 ltr engines both running from capri's  but somehow the owner's think there worth over 4k for a v6 3.0 ltr... sure there running but 4g's for a non reco engine is a joke ...

no way will i pay that much for a secondhand v6 that probably needs rebuild

i think the 4.0 ltr with the yank efi to carby manifold is looking better every time .. will be cheaper thats for sure ..

you'll need the 2.8 capri   xmember and drivers mount - that mount will bolt straight up - the passengers wont (u could use the 2.8i pass mount but u will have to make an adaptor plate.
also prob the best way to go gearbox wise is a T5 - but youll need a bellhousing from a 4 speed 2.8 mustang.
also, all of the overhead cam 4 ltrs were autos - youll need a flywheel and clutch off the earlier 4.0 exploder if u go SOHC.
You'll need a sump off a sierra - the exploder sump wont fit - the sierra one suits the capri but the exploder 4.0 block is wider so u will have to make slight mods to the sierra aluminium sump to make it work.
also the oilfilter arm will need work (or use a smaller filter)
I would go with the earlier 4.0 manual non SOHC engine

they will catch u on emissions - unless u go LPG

some good info there ...

not to worried about emission's  as i'll get rego with the original mtr then pull it out and drop the 4ltr in it..

cheers for the info
