The redbook prices aren't anything to go by, it's how much the next person wants it, look at the baby boomers paying silly money for GT Falcons a while back. I'm looking for a new project at the moment and a V6 capri is high on the list but 10k+ for a project seems a bit much. I wouldn't be able to afford an anorak to go with it... Maybe a GT Cortina instead...
Cheers Drew...

If I was going to buy a restorer I would prefer a total mess because most of the resto costs are the same no matter what.  New trim is the same no matter what cond the base is, paint is the same, elect is the same, engine is the same, suspension is the same etc.  The only major difference in cost is rust repair and I would rather see what I am in for than buy a car with ok paint to find its full of bog...like so many are.  So I would take the one with the vinyl roof over the gold one and have a large discount on final restored cost.  I think that's why the in between cond cars struggle to sell.  Too expensive as a base to fix up, and not nice enough to cruise around in, and buyers just looking at the numbers with no emotional investment.  The exchange rate tanking isn't helping resto costs either.

I reckon $30000 for a restored car is fair value at the moment. $40000 for me is too high. It's also what the car is and how it looks but say $2 to $5000 is the going rate for a rusty bits and pieces shell with motor at the $4-5000 mark. Then $10000 for something that's running. It's just a huge cost jump once all is new or overhauled to be called mint condition and that's worth $30000 plus IMO

So, it seems that no-one wants to part with $19500 for the Grecian Gold e-Bay GT V/6. It can't be just because it's located in south-western Victoria at Portland, can it?

Not really whools if you know what your doing and have the spare parts your probably saving it from someone who will pull the car apart let it rust and sell it far worse than they got it. I bought the V6 of eBay this week so I am at 9 but two of those are wrecks so if I get seven going I will be happy. I won't drive or keep the seven maybe three or four but I just like learning and playing with them. On top of that I have three that drive so I'm not in a hurry or rush so therefore doing a bad job.
