Hi, this is my first post and first ford project as I have a couple of toranas (please don't hold that against me).

I have just acquired a 71 V6 GT Capri, bought as a project that was started 18 years ago. Body was in bare metal with no rust when we inspected, trim had already been purchased. 2x engines and 2x gearboxes along with most parts to reassemble.

I have had the body painted already in the original ultra white, at first I was unsure as the tag had been lost but was found amongst the parts.
I am now at the stage of placing the wiring in my car but my harness's are shot inc. connectors.

Is there anywhere in Australia that remakes a new harness?
Are the Aussie harness's the same as the UK harness's?
How different is the 1600 harness to the 3000 harness?

Thanks, Jason

No Aussie harnesses, uk pre facelift v6 are good, u can modify a 1600 gt Aust one to fit.

Thanks Spud15.
What do you mean by facelift? Mk1 to Mk2?
Forgive me as I learning more about these car each day. Totally different to the toranas I am used to.

Capris were given a facelift in 73 - the instrument cluster and dash etc we're changed significantly - all the Aussie delivered ones are pre (before) the facelift. The facelift looms arequite different so won't fit your application

Keep an eye out at trademe.co.nz to - (if u struggle to get one) they (New Zealand) had a lot of pre facelift capris - like ours

double check if buying from the UK as some of their cars had internal fuse boxes.  MK1 GT V6 wiring loom is hard to find, converted 4 cyl might be the go

the Aussie V6 loom has alternator feed to ignition switch (RHS of engine bay thru firewall),  across interior, then out the firewall to battery at front LHS.
The Aussie 4cyl loom does not have RHS feed to ignition switch.

I have intimate knowledge here.  I painstakingly fixed a loom for 6 dial wiring, only to discover it had come from a 4cyl XL, not V6. Useless to me.

The wiring diagram for the V6 shows a alternator feed across front of car to battery, but 2 out of 2 examples I had did not have this feed.

That said , I'm sure a decent (old) electrician could sort something out for you.

whooligan makes a valid point.  Wiring will melt together before you smell it .... or see the flames.
Then it is too late.

Ever tried to separate a melted harness?

thank you to everyone for this topic, I was unaware of any loom/headlight issue.
Dukess included a partial loom in the gauges I won on ebay recently, and I found it had burnt out partially at sometime before.

It would not be to difficult in recreating a frame and remaking a look, just the OEM connectors for everything may be hard to track down, plus of course you'd need to do a few to warrant the wire purchase costs.

Whooligan can I ask were you sourced the 'headlight relay kit', as it may be useful for GTR469 to know also?

 'headlight relay kit',

I got mine from CapriClinic about 5 years ago. The owner has now ceased business AFAIK.
Consisted of some relays, battery feed and earthing plate to bypass  high current draw power feed from light switch (became a signal only). Buttoned in at fuse box.  No wiring was hurt in the making of this bypass arrangement.  Easily reversible.

I have a 1600GT wiring loom if anyone can use it. It is the complete engine bay and the under dash set ups. Let me know if anyone needs it. Cheers, terry
