I made a new cable out of a MTB bike cable,i went to the bike shop and bought some stainless cable .Then i went to the local fishing tackle shop, and bought some wire trace clamps.Took it home and cut the cable wire to size than i did the same to the outer sheath,i found a couple of big fishing swivels attached them to the cable crimped them tight.Spray a bit of wd40 in to the sheath, before you do that and it will be as smooth as. I'll post up a picture tomorrow to show what i mean. Cost about $10.00 all up.

Would like to see what you've done. I figure if I swap the cable with a secondhand item it's likely to snap anyway being over 30 years old!
