Australian Capri owners ( and others) are probably lucky (I guess) - so far - that the facility isn't available for the Aust ID plate - take a pic of a tag, replicate it - and off you go? Anyway, an ID plate OBVIOUSLY - isn't the last word - when it comes to authenticity. ( especially a UK one! - I wonder how they deal with it ) - replicating any chassis no is also easy - see ebay UK etc etc - under 100 quid, 2 weeks and your new strut tower plate is waiting at the P.O.)
It may be upsetting for some - but it's certainly no secret.
An Aust del v6 is worth what it's worth - regardless of the tag - as long as it's a v6 one - a 4 cyl shell has to be significantly modified in order to fool a Capri nut - a lot of work fr little joy - but an rs3100 - with it's UK tag - esp at UK prices ....

in rod we trust
be good if you could get some tags like the waterways ones they put on ya boat stamped with your chassis number and hide a few in some places  during the resto take pics etc

My new ID plates arrived from the UK today - for the RS3100. Very neat and tidy. Look the part for any situation and do add a bit of tiny bling to the engine bay. U would be fooled by them. They are great but if you've seen a set of originals - u can pick them out - prob a good thing.
Now - if I see a set of ID plates on an RS (or facelift)  ill know straight up whether they are later copies or the real thing! It still wont stop me using these ones  - but ill keep to old ones nice and safe .... (they are also approx. 1ml wider and longer). (of course the Aust ID plate is a bit of a clincher for our RS's)

I have to say Spud that owning the Perana you can get reproduction plates for that. I reckon you stick with the real thing and that if you do, it will be more worthwhile. I bought some of the repro plates for the Perana but their for a cabinet not for your car. Or their for your car so as the real plates always stay with you. I Don't know best way, really as the RS is an expensive car. Same prob i have with the Perana should I remove the original plates for safe keeping, then replace or always have the chance the car is lost, if its stolen. Keith
