Hi all in process of doing a clutch upgrade. It has come to my attention there is comflicting scenarios . 1st to tighten up cable with no play (this goes against the book). But I know of several cars including my old clutch that have no choice or you won't be going anywhere. 2nd. To leave cable semi loose as per manual. 
This puts me to ask the question what could be wrong , is the throw out fork bent? Just curious where other v6's have their cable set.
Secondly does anyone where to get the locating guide for bell bousing?

You would think that even a bent arm will work because the cable adjusted takes out the slack. A broken arm is another thing tho. Only thing i can think of is that the clutch plate is oil contaminated and sticking  which then requires a tight adjustment to get it to work. This might work for a while but will lead to a worn out thro out bearing and clutch fingers.
Phils rotaries has the nylon bushs two for $15 delivered on ebay now.

Always should have slack or play. Or else it's like you have your foot on the clutch. My driving teacher and many others picked on me for even resting my foot on the clutch pedal( because you wear it out)

I know what you guys are saying. I know of a car that had a brand new clutch, standard exeedy HD. Could not get any gears not to mention even reverse.Its adjusted up so reverse is achievable but his cable is far from loose..I felt his pedal and it felt good grip was halfway out like it should. So why is one car loose and one car tight..Both running identical clutches..
 

Don't forget its set with the pedal pulled back onto the stop.  Maybe someone has played with the stop position.

Update... Saga continues. FYI. Exeedy clutches not suited D port flywheels. Check.
Have now a different pressure plate with a Capri clutch plate.
OK. This is where it's getting interesting. Any help , input would be greatly appreciated. As now it's getting a bit desperate.
PROBLEM: Clutch grabbing point is 50mm from floor.
This is what we have came up with and fixed so far.
Mounting ledge of throw out machined and spacer added to repair back to original depth.
Spacer behind the throw out bearing.
Currently pedal is level with the brake pedal .
That's another problem I know but 20mm at the pedal will not give me atleast 70mm + at the grabbing end. With the cable wound up really tight it still doesn't give me any more distance off the floor.
I'm doing this with my bell housing , throw arm.
Basically bolted up less gearbox to get a simulated clutch workings.
So guys put your thinking caps on please. Any suggestions experience situations anything cheers guys . 

Me too - I've got a 5 speed behind a Pinto that has a clutch take up barely a centimeter or two off the floor!

There may be a mismatch between clutch pedal travel and clutch fork travel. No matter how the cable is adjusted the clutch pedal cannot move the lever enough to correctly disengage the clutch. Is it the correct clutch fork and pivot points? Just a thought......

Hi Matt,     Just been reading about clutch adjustment in the factory manual (as you do haha). Anyway point is there is no secret tricks to it, just fit cable and adjust locknuts to give about 3.5mm of clearance, this will give 12 to 19mm freeplay at the pedal.
It looks like you will need to detail the pedal box area same as you have done with the clutch arm, because some travel looks like it is being lost somewhere.
Has the cross pin at the top of the cable worn into the pedal arm?
Is there any slop at the fulcrum bush?
Is the carpet, underlay and floor mat a bit on the thick side?
Is the pedal arm bent?
Just little problems can add up to a big one and is hard to diagnose.
