Mal
Hi all,
Am new to the Capri Project stage in my life, as I found last week 3 x capris in one big shed for sale as a bundle in all different stages of repair, stripped and parts, too cheap to say no.
I did a rev check and research on the one I thought was the best condition (least amount to get back on road) and I think is a GT vin CK17LP23741P colour Z trans X Engine P. The revs check came back as
VEHICLE DETAILS
VIN CK17LP23741P
Make FORD
Model CAPRI
Body -
Year of manufacture 1971
Colour BLACK
VEHICLE REGISTRATION
Registration plate -
Registration state WA
Registration expiry date -
How is it Black when the research I have done says the violet?
The next one is
CK14MK30654A
Is this a Delux model, I have never even heard of them, is this rare / worth rebuilding?
Last of all and even more confusing is JF116OB12770 ??? Duel green.
So to all you knowledgeable folk that live and breath the Capris (that I will become) any info would be muchly appreciated?
Thanks in advance
Mal

Nice find. Check this thread out for codes etc. http://www.classic-ford.o...tm.aspx?m=48858&p=

The v6 would be the best one to focus on in terms of end value.

Mal sounds like you did well.
You could probably strip the worst one and sell of whatever you don't need, and pretty much recover your costs.

Think of a price, and double it, or if you have a Ford bag to sit the item on, then  triple it,  and you'd probably be on the money EBay wise.

I'm sure there'd be a few people eager to see some pics of your barn find, myself included.

Ck17 is a gt could be 1600 or V6 but yours would be V6. The ck14 is a 4cyl and they also had ck30 difference between deluxe and xl. The final one is that the chassis printed on body or Australian alloy plate cause that sounds like an import. Our earlier models had JE numbers or JA numbers. Although it might be a very early 69 Capri. Others will know more. No Capris were black unless it was a special order so someone must have repainted it. Hope it all goes well and welcome. Keith

I am in Perth WA.
So went and picked up the stripped shell today (the one that looks like the best to restore) and am overwhelmed with the amount of stuff that came of it as well as spares. As well as the amount of work it would require to put 1 restored back together.
It is a full shed just about full of stuff.
The 2 complete cars still got to pick up are both manuals with the V6, the stripped car has no box but also has a v6 so all up I have 3 x 3.0 litres engines iand 2 x manual box's, so that does not seem to match the 3 compliance plates I have.
I am trying to work this out,
I will post a list of all numbers and stuff from compliance plates, engines and frames when I have other 2 here.
I will most certainly wish to sell stuff to help with the project. I will also ask what the V 6's are worth.More tonight when have unloaded first trailer load

Nice pickup, wish I could come across something like that.

The best way to find out what cars are what (apart from the thread GTV6 linked to) is to contact Ford customer relations (hopefully they're still around now that Ford manufacturing has stopped). They'll ask you to apply in writing/email and you'll have to provide proof of purchase (receipt or bill of sale) and a copy of your drivers licence.

The last number (JF number) will be from a 1970 model V6 auto. Not all of the number you quoted will be the actual body/engine number, so it would be good to see a clear picture of where this is stamped on the car to be sure.

The deluxe would still be worth doing up if the body is in good condition, but you may be too busy to get to it!

Any parts you're not sure of, post a picture here - we like the 'guess the part' game.

Cheers

and maybe don't sell anything for a good month or 2!

It'd suck if you sold something only to find you needed one later.
When I was dumber and more foolish than I am now, I stripped my capri down, ready for the repaint.
In the heat of the moment, I virtually destroyed the chrome boot lid trim strip, which was pop riveted on, thinking that it's be easy to replace with a better one. It has a few small dings in it anyhow.
It took about 25 years before I was in a position to justify forking out the going price for a replacement.
I also wish I didn't smash the drivers side interior light bezel, that one has still not been fixed.

Don't throw anything out, bag everything, and take plenty of happy snaps before you rip into it.
