Happy New Year guys, Im replacing the rear bushes, suspension parts etc on my car. Have got the rear leaf spring sandwich pad set from Yesterford that contains 4 pads. My car only has pads on the top of the springs and the manual shows the same. Yesterford said that the kit supplies 4 because they have a pad on top of spring and 1 on the bottom sitting on top of the U bolt bracket.  Which is correct? cheers PSR.

I replaced mine a month ago and it had 4 in the kit (they all have 4 per kit). One above the leaf spring and one below, both had locating dowles to fit in the housing and retainer plate. If you fitted only one what would that do???
The supplier has been around long enough, I would back him in...... 1970V6

In the Capri parts catalog, they're referred to as Rear Spring Insulators and there are 2 Upper (part number 70EB 5536 AA) and 2 Lower (part number 70EB 5K617 AA).

If you leave the top pad out then you're raising the car by the thickness of the pad and the U-bolt nuts will wind up further to take up the distance of the missing upper pad.

If you leave the bottom pad out then the U-bolt nuts will wind up further to take up the distance of the missing lower pad.

Regardless of whether you remove 1 or both pads, the U-bolt nuts will wind up further and you may run out of thread and you will need shorter U-bolts.

It's not uncommon to remove both top & bottom pads by competition cars in order to better locate the diff & eliminate the play which is inherent with having the pads in place. Escorts racers have been removing these pads for decades and using Anglia U-Bolts, which are shorter, to accommodate the missing pads. Other mods must be done if removing the pads, but a quick Google search will show you everything you need to know.

Thank you all, great info. The car only had the top pads on but seeing the replacement kit has 4 I will replace with top and bottom. Can always alter later on if need be. thanks again.
