HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE !    .....................................

and let's turn this Social Isolation into a massive POSITIVE by getting all the jobs done that we never seem to have time for!

I for one will try and get my all original 100,000kms XC 5.8L Coupe back on the road that I bought brand new in 1978. Copped a tank full of contaminated fuel a few years ago, so took car off the road for clean-out, and then found more rust in the tank than I could justify, so put out an "APB" for a good XC Tank which was mission impossible. The crazy shape of the tank and all the PC lines inside made it a nightmare according to all the experts. It was going to cost more than a new repro which only would fit XA XB which I will not do unless for a stop-gap measure. May as well keep off the road till all is fixed properly. And the months turn in to years !
All the used Tanks were lots worse than mine.  I think the problem was accelerated by the LACK OF LEAD IN FUEL, which would help inhibit rust. ULP had no redeeming features for steel tanks. Could be why Ford went to plastic tanks on the XD but for some reason went back to steel soon after. I'd hate to imagine how much sooner the tank would have rusted if I wasn't so generous with UCL (up cyl lube) since the end of SUPER. But all that lube did not protect the tank as I'd hoped.
Fortunately, one of my neighbours remembered wrecking an almost new XC back in 1980 and still had the tank ! How lucky the XC 1978 tanks were same between Sedan and Coupe!........  and the "kicker"! Turned out to be a Long Range Tank !
When I looked inside the "new" tank with a halogen lamp, it was like looking at a brand new tank !  .............  saved me spending same money on a "stop-gap" repro pre-pollution tank for XA XB which never had the features of the XC pollution tank.
Just hope Carby and Pump are ok.

HAPPY EASTER !    ................   Bernie  (Capri GTV6 Wild Plum)

Hi Bernie
All  the best with the project, my last Falcon was an XA GT clone which I sold after getting married and had kids. Escort is getting a new stereo and fitting the new door seals prior to going to panelbeaters to get some rust repairs done next week. Happy Easter !
Cheers, Len

Love those coupes but I had a soft spot for the XBGT 4 doors. My last project car was a genuine matching number GT bought in the late 80’s, rebuilt and sold in 1995 to buy a house. Wish I still had it but at least I have some footage 😉 Easter plans to sort my inlet in prep for the Zetec build.

Cheers Robbie,

Forgot to mention the 1978 Ford as-new Fuel tank turned out to be "LONG RANGE" which I think the 30 Racing Cobras got (Spare tyre well was deleted).
Does anyone know if the Long Range FoMoCo tanks are 130 litres capacity as I'm not sure ?

love all your photos of Winton cars and the yellow Prefect 100E

..........brings back my guilt feelings of doing 100% zero with a rust-free Prefect 100E that was abandoned in 1974 very near to the hotel near Caulfield Railway Station with Clutch/Trans problems. Local Council and Police were almost begging me to take it as all their efforts for 3 months to locate the owner were fruitless. My mate and I flat-towed it (tow-rope between cars!) with my HK Panel Van cum Monaro, all the way to Aspendale. Try and get away with that today ! We had to hold the clutch pedal in all the way as it refused to select neutral! Lucky its brakes worked..........  I remember starting the engine and testing it; turns out it was BRAND NEW! (new eng no and no plates or reg decal helped hide "trail"?)
Still sitting in my shop 46 years later, as more worthy cars intervened its repair, I'm embarrassed to say.

At least you still have it in your shop, you still have the option of fixing it that way, they are a cool looking car and would be great to see your progress when it happens.

Unfortunately Winton has been canceled this year along with so many other events, more time to work in the shed though.
