Hi, Just had the nylon ball on my RS2000 shifter collapse, made a mess of shattered nylon to clean up and the gearstick to pop out. Was fun finding gears on the way home. Can the nylon parts be replaced and how does the gearshift come apart? Thanks.

There is a lock washer with tabs on it , use a flat blade screw driver and Bend up the steel prongs and unscrew.. the gear stick will then lift out . I would just go online to motorsporttools or burtonpower approx 80$ Aud delivered to your door for a new rose jointed quick shift

I don't think the originals can be repaired, although I'd be happy to be proven wrong. My ball disintegrated on me too and I ended up buying a quick shifter even though the throw is too short for my liking.

You used to be able to buy a new threaded ball section for Falcons (XD XE XF) but I am not sure if it is the same for Escorts. I have never had to repair one yet.

Cheers, Craig.

Mine also nearly fell apart a few months ago.
It is possible to repair the shifts.
I removed the insulating rubber holding the shift together so the stick became two pieces.
Then machined an aluminium knuckle to replace the shattered nylon knuckle.
The aluminium knuckle was then shrunk fit in place and the two halves of the stick bonded back together using two part urethane.
There are a few tricks but if you know a mate that is good with a lathe and on the ball it is repairable.

Had a attempt today, even though the 2 halfs are pressed together mine were also glued. Sacrificed a old one first then the one I want to save. So far so good, now to get a standard shifter with good nylon parts and make one from several, thats the plan.

I used this on my Escort. Worked well.

That looks good, I seen they have them listed separately for different models. Are they all the same? The standard shifter I fitted to get me back on the road is red also.

You need to check the colour of the plastic ball, the different colour plastic means different thread size.  There is white, green and blur IIRC.  A tip used to be to get one from a P76 Leyland as they were aluminium

I just got a orange ball off ebay now I forget the order it went together. Has anyone a photo of a RS2000 gearshift together?
