I've had a bit of a burst in motivation on this project over the past week.
About two years ago I engineered a 6 link rear end into the car with very minor mods to the car itself. The only mods I made could be reversed out if needed.
However I was stuck because the idea of using competition springs and shocks which are rose jointed solid, with no rubber insulators on a street car wasn't appealing. So the car has been sitting with everything fitted minus springs and shocks.
Last Wednesday I was stressed out so went for a walk and went past a car suspension workshop and spied a pile of springs and shocks on the nature strip outside of their workshop. I asked about them and was told to take what i wanted free of charge. The parts were going into the waste skip because they could not be identified. They said the more I took would mean less work for them.
So I grabbed most of it. All brand new springs and shocks with rubber insulators, never been fitted to a vehicle.
Within 4 hours I had the drivers side shock and spring trial fitted, fully adjustable. Perfect ride height. Looks totally OEM to the point of having an Escort part number on it. The springs are a bit too firm however they can be adjusted later. I will trial fit the passengers side in next few days and put some piccies up.
So it is possible to engineer a Borg Warner axle housing with a 4 link and adjustable Watts Link into an Escort with the only mods being eight 6.5mm diameter holes drilled into the floor pan hidden underneath the boot floor mat and four 6.5mm diameter holes in the floor pan under the rear seat.
Also I found I did fit a carbon canister. Hidden high up inside the passengers front wheel well where I had forgotten about it.
If anyone trips over a second hand programmable ECU in good condition please let me know.
