If it's 40 thousand oversize, what does the displacement that works out to be?

I make it to be 2,038cc give or take a little. CR will be up a tad too (about 0.15).

thanks guys.
2,038 cc of grunt:)
I usually do things twice, and since the fat man in the red suit is coming, I think I'll try to get it assembled over Christmas, and pinch the weber 32/36 off the capri to get it going. Then in a few months pull it out to paint the engine bay and do the engine properly. I'm nearly in between garages ATM, so everythings a mess and mostly in storage.
The car came with a bundle of gaskets, so its wont be a drama if some get sacrificed redoing it again.
Go idea with getting the head skimmed, and I'll skip the balancing then.
Hopefully it ends up being a good engine to start with.

Is the sump meant to have a baffle?
Theres the remains of spotwelded tab on the inside where it may have been attached, and could have been removed at some stage. If it can be cleaned enough to weld, should a new one be folded up and  attached, or just run it without one?

should have a baffle, put one back in in if you re able, really does stop oil sloshing around.  Top end really can't afford not to have a good oil supply. Len

Definitely agree with Len, the sump needs a baffle if it hasn't got one..a simple plate with a hole for the pickup and one for dipstick which yu can Weld it in , it should sit on the second step .. unless the sump is Cortina and all they have is a 2in plate at the step to stop oil flinging forward under brakes.
I done all this last week.. Even changed the Cortina sump to escort where the middle bumps are. This is what i done ,.. should fix the oil slosh ! The sump is going to be Hot Tanked this week to clean it up

Its a job chance to give my homemade folder a burl.
Engine block, inlet manifold and the sump have all been cleaned and painted, whilst I'm waiting for the flywheel and pressure plate.

sorry Ray, I let the guy selling the engine keep the auto box.
He was kind enough to drop the engine down when calling past, so I said he could keep it if it was of use.
He's in Werribbee, and probably still has it, this was only 1 week ago

I can contact him for you if interested.
Engine had done around 90K
