Hi
I am just getting to the stage of adjusting the volvo calipers to suit my struts, but am thinking of plugging the holes first instead of elongating.
Has anyone done this? If so, what method did you use?
I was considering using the cast iron screw in plugs with the loctite etc.
Any feedback would be appreciated and if you have done this, where did you get your cast iron plugs?

thanks,
Kieran

If your talking about plugging brake line and bleed nipple holes i`d just use bleed nipples and loctite, Simple, quick and reversible

I like the ide of a plug (troppo I think he is referring to the mounting lugs which need to be ovalised/slotted to work)
However I think its overkill. Campaigned  mine for several seasons with hand filed lugs with no problems. the attachment comes from mating face friction via bolt tension clamping. not shear.
If you have the time effort and cash go for it but I doubt its road legal anymore then opening the holes up and secondly most likely not necessary.

Hi guys,
thanks for the replies. Thats right jpayne, i was referring to the mounting holes.
I found the option of using cast iron plugs or another option called JB weld (just an adhesive)

It sounds like i might be worry about nothing though.

How about bolts for mounting the calipers to the strut? I have a Capri strut and it appeared as though the bolt from my Mk2 struts doesnt match the thread on the struts.

Thanks

Correct they are a different thread, I bought the right tap to clean mine up and for the life of me cant remember the thread type 7/16 something I think.
bolts are unique in that they have a 12mm shank and imperial thread?
Ebay has some 'correct' bolts.

The Capri struts and Mk1 Escort would be imperial and the Mk2 Escort metric.

Thanks again for the help!
A UNF tap was what went through, so imperial as you said.
Are these the 'right' ones?

I would be asking what thread as they seem to list both imperial and metric cars,

That's right JP. There's a seller in the UK who does these custom bolts. Imperial thread, metric shank. They're made for fitting M16 calipers to capri struts. I found a set in my shed the other day which I though i'd lost, let me know if you need them!
