I found a problem when using K&N style filters with DCOE's when the insert type ram tubes are used.
The thickness of the back plate on the filters coupled with the gasket create a gap, so the locking tabs don't do their job (the ram tubes have movement)
To solve the problem I stripped some copper cores out of 16mm2 building wire (electrical cable) and twisted above the lip on the ram tubes. See pics attached
 
They are in there good & solid now

Full marks on thinking outside the box, the only problem i can see is that copper is soft so it may crush and you`ll wind up with loose tubes again

I think it will work well. Copper is softer etc but that will kind of be better i reckon as you can torque the tab down a bit more into it. If it does eventually crush too far you can always replace. Good fix i say!

Thanks guys! The tabs are pretty tough and they did bend a little when I torqued them down. I don't think the copper will distort any more than what it has because it's quite thick. If it does I can spin the wire to a fresh section, flip the tabs around and re-tighten.

Some steel wire might provide a better result
