Hi everyone, I'm currently replacing a head on a 1600 xflow in a MK2 Escort and finding it hard to find new head bolts. I was just wondering if anyone knows if they are actually needed to be replaced or can I get away with reusing them? If I need to replace them does anyone know where I can get a new set? Thanks

I just used the original ones when I rebuilt my motor. Not sure if this is frowned upon or not, but the old bolts arent torque-to-yield like todays head bolts on new cars so unless they are knackered cant see much wrong with it.

You can get new ones from here
http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-fitment-type/parts-by-engine-ford/ford-cross-flow-kent.html?product_area=745&product_group=233

Where have you tried sourcing them from? I use Sprint Auto Parts Enfield who usually can get anything otherwise Outlaw Speed shop can usually get whatever Sprints cant

Cheers,
Ryan

I have tried my local Sprints and Auto Pro, both said they couldn't get any. I might just reuse the old ones and see how I go. Cheers

I have been building these engines for years (race engines) and have never purchased a new head bolt, and have never had a problem. Make sure a good head gasket is used.

I was told many many yrs ago that a local speed shop used to sell Chevy head bolts for the Kent motor...apparently they are the same thread and length .
Also when I used to build them is cheap out and re-use the old head bolts and never had problems . I've always cleaned them up before use and cleaned the threads in the block , also put a drop of oil under the bolt head....this will help give a better torque reading when tightening them up.
